Purpose of Position

The Training and Field Manager will support the training and development of Roosevelt Network members – current undergraduate students and members of our young professional alumni network. They will serve as the team’s lead training facilitator, delivering content to help students develop their policy, communication, and leadership skills and embark on career exploration. They will manage several student positions on our Student Leadership Team and assist with alumni initiatives, like Affinity Groups. This role requires someone flexible – comfortable adapting to the ongoing changes in higher education and student life, the political landscape, and joining an organization that is in the first stages of implementing a new strategic plan.

Passion and excitement about working with young people is a must; experience in the progressive movement, teaching experience, and prior student management experience is preferred.

This is a non-management, unionized, role.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

– Student leadership and chapter ecosystem development:

  • Supervise and train student members of our 5 geographic regional teams who:
  • Provide Peer mentorship and guidance to long-standing and emerging chapters;

– Establish new student and institution contacts across each region;

  • Plan and execute regional conferences and workshops.
  • Advise student leaders as they plan events, trainingS, and conferences.
  • Support the implementation of our Strategic Plan, including stakeholder management and rollout of programmatic changes related to chapter support.
  • Utilize Trello, Google Drive, Zoom, and other digital tools/systems to coordinate with student leaders across the country.

– Serve as the lead facilitator for Roosevelt Network trainings:

  • Master the content of our policy and leadership skills focused Core Curriculum, and deliver engaging training sessions to Network members throughout academic year:
  • Execute Core Curriculum for annual Network Fellowships’ summer onboarding.
  • Master, plan, and deliver professional development training series, Level Up, and coordinate with Senior Program Manager to transition students to a formal mentorship program during the Spring semester.
  • With guidance from Senior Program Manager, lead logistics, assessment, and execution of annual conferences and events.

– Assist with training and programming delivery for alumni initiatives:

  • Facilitate Affinity Group and Alumni Association programming.
  • Assist with, or facilitate, quarterly book club meetings.
  • Deliver and/or plan professional development training for young professionals.

Purpose of Position

The Roosevelt Network External Relations Manager will lead and manage the team’s program communications, stakeholder management, and partnership development. This role will work with the National Director and Senior Program Manager to develop and communicate program language for new and existing initiatives, leverage the network’s Salesforce data to inform a robust communication and engagement strategy — including helping define the appropriate scale for a complex network of students and alumni, manage the student leader who provides communication guidance to peers across network chapters, and work with the network’s two advisory boards alongside the National Director.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Serve as the Network team’s communications lead:

  • In partnership with the Roosevelt Institute Communications team, and in collaboration with the Network’s program/project managers, lead on digital comms strategy including program language, email-blasts, website language, etc.

  • Oversee the work of a student communications coordinator who is responsible for advising chapters on digital communication and traditional campus media engagements

  • Serve as the point person for alumni inquiries and general programming coordination
  • In partnership with the National Director, support and coordinate the Alumni Board of Advisors; this includes collaboration with the Roosevelt Institute Development team for alumni fundraising initiatives
  • In partnership with the National Director, support and coordinate with the Student Board of Advisors
  • Serve as the Network team’s Salesforce lead, leveraging the system’s data to inform relationship management strategies and engagement

The Office of Labor Policy and Standards (“OLPS”) enforces the City’s worker protection laws, such as the Earned Safe and Sick Time Act, the Freelance Isn’t Free Act, the Fair Workweek Laws, including “just cause” legislation that protects fast food workers against unlawful termination, and the Third-Party Service Workers Law, which regulates wages and working conditions for app-based delivery workers. Working closely with outside stakeholders, OLPS also advocates for new laws, performs research and data analysis to make policy recommendations, and conducts outreach and education to workers, employers, and the general public.

OLPS is seeking a Data Scientist to play a key role in the enforcement of groundbreaking new legal protections for workers, especially the Fair Workweek Laws, which prohibit abusive scheduling practices, the Earned Safe and Sick Time Act, which guarantees the right to paid sick leave, and the new Third-Party Service Workers Law, which regulates wages and working conditions of app-based delivery workers. Reporting to the OLPS Research Director, the Data Scientist will work closely with the Office’s investigation and litigation teams to develop and implement strategies for the discovery, collection, and analysis of employer data relating to compliance with city workplace laws. Working on the Office’s most complex cases, the Data Scientist will help collect and use this data to identify violations of NYC workplace laws, assess the validity of claims by employers and workers, calculate employee relief and civil penalties, and guide investigators in the collection of testimonial evidence and other documentation. The Data Scientist will also create systems to automate and standardize data collection and analysis, develop and implement refinements to investigative methods, and play a critical role in ensuring working New Yorkers can access the protections they are entitled to under the law. Since its founding in 2016, OLPS has built a reputation as a leader in the use of data analytics within its field, and the successful applicant will be joining a growing team of data scientists to further develop this area of the Office’s work.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working with investigators and attorneys to identify the data necessary to evaluate employers’ compliance with NYC workplace laws;
  • Communicating with employers’ counsel and technical staff to ensure delivery of responsive data, along with information necessary for its interpretation;
  • Developing and using appropriate data analysis tools to describe employer practices, identify key witnesses, and calculate damages;
  • Assessing how OLPS uses data in its investigations and litigation and recommending and implementing improvements;
  • Recommending changes to laws, rules, and agency guidance to the extent they may relate to any of the functions described above; and
  • Assisting with other aspects of the OLPS research team’s work, including analysis of labor market data, reporting based on the Office’s internal administrative data, and process design and automation.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

  1. For Assignment Level I (only physical, biological and environmental sciences and public health) A master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health.

To be appointed to Assignment Level II and above, candidates must have:

  1. A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or
  2. A master’s degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time research experience in the appropriate field of specialization; or
  3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1” or “2” above. What is the Position We are Looking To Fill?

We are looking for a full-time Director of the Planning and Policy Lab (PPL), a project of BCDI. The PPL provides local planning and policy capacity by, with, and for the Bronx. Working collaboratively with local stakeholders, the PPL serves as a coordinating entity and works to co-create a long term strategy for equitable development and supportive public policy in the borough. The PPL provides partners with research, land use, and data analysis as well as participatory planning, strategy development, and capacity building support.

The ideal candidate for this position has experience developing strategy, has a background in participatory planning and policy development, and is adept at building and managing strategic partnerships with cross-sectoral stakeholders.

Drop-In & Syringe Exchange Program Manager

Organization Overview: VOCAL-NY is a grassroots membership organization working to create healthy and just communities by building power among people affected by HIV, drug use, mass incarceration, and homelessness. We do this through community organizing, leadership development, direct services, policy advocacy and direct action with the belief that true social change must come from the bottom up and be led by those most directly impacted.

This role is part of VOCAL-NY’s service team — which provides onsite and peer-based syringe exchange, overdose prevention, hepatitis C testing & treatment, care coordination, drop-in center, support groups, and other services for people who use drugs. Services are provided in a low-threshold, nonjudgmental and culturally relevant manner.

Position Description: The Drop-In Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of VOCAL-NY’s drop-in center and syringe exchange program (SEP) desk. This includes developing, implementing, and monitoring services including but not limited to drop-in community programming, overdose prevention, mail services, and on-site laundry and shower access.

Specific Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Responsible for the coordination of the office-based syringe exchange and drop-in center. This includes identifying scheduling needs for the syringe exchange and drop-in center, ensuring adequate coverage of both, and maintaining organized inventory of harm reduction and documentation supplies.
  • Responsible for the recruitment, training, and ongoing support of volunteers and interns (limited to community members and non-Masters-level interns).
  • Trains and supervises part-time peer educators working in VOCAL-NY’s drop-in.
  • Routinely assesses and implements policies and procedures around safe use of on-site participant facilities such as bathrooms, laundry, and shower. Supervises and supports full-time Syringe Exchange Worker and part-time peer educators to implement these policies and procedures.
  • Supervise and support full-time Drop-in Associate to coordinate educational workshops and other community programming in the drop-in center. Responsible for overall coordination of a safe, friendly, and liberatory environment in the drop-in center. Solicits feedback from participants on an ongoing basis regarding preferences for community programming.
  • Coordinates with the Data Associate to ensure that direct services provided at the SEP desk and drop-in center are appropriately documented and observe trends related to drop-in center services or patterns of drug use to help guide future service provision.
  • Coordinates with the Director of Harm Reduction Services regarding office supply inventory, information technology (e.g. internet, computer, and/or telephone issues), and activities related to repairs or renovations.
  • Attend trainings as needed to improve skills and knowledge. Identify training and professional development opportunities for direct reports.
  • This role supervises two full-time staff members (Syringe Exchange Worker & Drop-In Coordinator) and at least two part-time staff members.
  • Reports to the Director of Harm Reduction Services

Requirements / QualificationsThe ideal candidate will be an energetic, self-motivated individual who has strong interpersonal and problem solving skills. This is a public facing role, where everyday you are in direct contact with people experiencing chaotic drug use, street-homelessness, and mental health challenges. This role requires patience, compassion, and a mindset that every person deserves dignity and respect. People directly impacted by drug use are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will have:

  • A deep commitment to harm reduction.
  • At least 2 years of experience as a frontline staff member in a direct services setting, ideally working with people who use drugs.
  • Experience managing and supervising staff is strongly preferred.
  • A willingness to work in a fast-paced environment, with changing assignments.
  • An ability to lead their own projects, and take initiative.
  • De-escalation, mediation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with common business software (e.g. MS W
  • Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Gmail).
