The CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies (SLU) offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Labor Studies and Urban Studies that are designed to meet the needs of working adults as well as traditional-age college students who seek to learn more about the challenges confronting poor and working-class populations in the workplace and in the community. It also collaborates with other units of CUNY to offer a range of college-credit programs designed to give workers the academic and technical skills they need for professional advancement. Its faculty includes distinguished scholars in the social sciences as well as expert practitioners in government, labor, and public service.

The Department of Labor Studies at SLU seeks a junior scholar for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Fields of specialization within Labor Studies are open, but the successful candidate will possess a demonstrated scholarly record and future research agenda that focuses on workers, the labor movement and diverse working-class communities, past and/or present. Candidates should also have demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level. Preference may be given to candidates with experience teaching nontraditional and adult students, and/or teaching general education courses.

Performs teaching, research and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise. Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.

The Department of Employee Resources is seeking a full time Labor Relations Specialist.  The County of Morris has 18 public sector collective bargaining units, comprised of both law enforcement and civilian units. The successful candidate will be a responsive and service-oriented professional who provides exceptional expertise in the field of labor relations. Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Assists in the daily operations of the County’s labor relations program
  • Comprehensive knowledge of labor and employment laws

This position will lead YouthBuild USA’s digital marketing and communications initiatives, including day-to-day content creation for the organization’s website, social media channels, email campaigns, intranet, and other digital platforms. The Digital Marketing Manager will join the Marketing and Communications Team during an exciting time, as the organization launched new global branding and an all-new website for the entire YouthBuild movement in October 2020.

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Communications and working closely with the Vice President of Marketing and Communications, this position will collaborate with various departments—including Development, Advocacy, Program and Alumni Services—as well as partners, funders and local YouthBuild programs to enhance YouthBuild’s visibility and advance its mission.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Manage and execute digital campaigns that are consistent with the Marketing and Communications Team’s overarching marketing strategies.
  • Develop website content by using a CMS platform (WordPress) and manage day-to-day operations to ensure website is fresh and relevant.

The Executive Director Role

CUP is seeking a forward-thinking, values-driven Executive Director to lead and manage the organization, shepherd its mission, and provide ongoing vision in line with the organization’s core values.

The Executive Director reports to CUP’s Board of Directors; runs the organization with the support of the leadership team, made up of the Director of Operations & Development and the Director of Programs; and oversees a budget of $1.5M and a team of 12 members. This is a full-time position, located at our office in Gowanus, Brooklyn.

The ideal candidate for this position would be someone with a deep understanding of community-engaged design practices, nonprofit management, and collaborative leadership; a desire to work in a collaborative setting with a broad range of partners; a belief in the power of design to effect change; an ability to articulate CUP’s story and impact verbally and in writing to increase its reach and its financial sustainability; and a demonstrated commitment to racial justice and equity.

The Executive Director’s responsibilities include:


  • Provide strategic vision for CUP’s work and next phase of impact by drawing on the recently completed strategic plan and translating it into executable goals and ensure that daily decision-making is led by shared strategy and values
  • Periodically develop new, values-aligned strategic plan through collaborative process with staff, board, and other stakeholders

Organizational leadership experience

This is a full-time, salaried position. The salary range for the position is $95,000 to $115,000, commensurate with skills and experience. CUP is a 12-person organization with an annual budget of $1.5 million, and poised to continue growing. Our office is based in Gowanus, Brooklyn, but we work with community partners all over New York City and travel throughout the five boroughs regularly. This position may also entail occasional travel outside of New York City in the future. Work hours are flexible, but generally around 10 am to 6 pm. Our work requires occasional evening and weekend events, such as launch events, workshops, presentations, and fundraisers. Staff members work in the office a minimum of 3 days per week, with flexible hours, and can work remotely the rest of the time.

All employees who work onsite are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and must provide proof of vaccination before entering the office. “Fully vaccinated” means at least two weeks have passed after receiving the second dose of a two-dose vaccine or a single dose of a one-dose vaccine. And we fight for economic and racial justice in our communities. Our Base Building team trains hundreds of workers a year about their rights on the job. About the Position

The Community Engagement & Base Building Educator is primarily responsible for engaging low-wage workers about their rights at work and coordinating and facilitating labor standards training and workshops. Success in this position requires a worker-centered approach, knowledge of popular education dynamics, strong facilitation skills, and the ability to develop long-term engagement with low-wage workers.

The organization is striving to become an anti-racist organization and expects that all staff will play an active role in that process and engage in their own. Community Outreach

  • Conduct individual intake meetings with workers who have called the general hotline and identify the resource or resolution, including making referrals to our internal legal clinic, campaigns team, administrative agencies, and other community partners
  • Implement curriculum and adapt facilitation to needs of training participants within a popular education framework and with social justice analysis along immigration, class, gender, and race.
  • Help build and co-facilitate a leadership development pipeline such as worker committees, leadership training, etc.

Data & Other Tasks

  • Help maintain relationships with other community-based organizations by finding opportunities to support their work and to advance the basebuilding strategy
  • Track relevant training, outreach, and data by entering into CRM on a timely basis
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Ability to build relationship of trust and mutual respect and to move people into action
  • Experience coordinating community and education outreach to reach priority communities, including flyering, tabling, and individual conversations
  • Strong background on popular education framework, facilitation, and communication skills or demonstrated ability to learn
  • Commitment to social, racial, and economic justice and deep understanding of challenges facing low wage workers, immigrant communities, communities of color, people with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ people
  • Dedication and ability to work flexible hours, on evenings and weekends, as needed, to meet worker needs
  • Second language required, Spanish preferred


  • 2+ years prior experience in community or labor organizing, including base-building, mobilization, political education, and community-led programming and campaigns
  • Prior experience working with domestic workers, restaurant workers, gig workers, or other priority industry identified by the organization
  • Experience in curriculum development and development of visual materials
  • Proficiency with using database systems and MS office applications, Canva, Instagram, Facebook, and Whatsapp


Salary & Benefits: This is a bargaining unit position. Salaries are set by the union pay scale, with anticipated starting pay between $56,445 – $62,231, depending on experience, along with significant annual step increases and COLAs each year. We provide a generous benefits package, including fully-paid family health care, 5% employer 401k contribution, substantial holidays, vacation and sick leave, and an ORCA card for employees in the Puget Sound area.

Location: This is a salaried overtime exempt position that we anticipate being based in our Seattle office, but we are open to the position being based in our Yakima office, for the right candidate. It may require occasional evening and weekend work and occasional travel throughout the state. Our team is currently working remotely due to COVID-19.
