Communications Strategist

Climate Jobs National Resource Center (CJNRC) is hiring a Communications Strategist. The Communications Strategist will craft effective campaign communications strategies, messages, and campaign materials to support union-led coalitions organizing for an equitable and worker-led energy transition.

 

The Communications Strategist will report to the Communications Director and support communications for CJNRC and across our growing network of climate jobs coalitions. The Communications Strategist will also manage CJNRC’s social media platforms; help maintain the organization’s website; draft op-eds, talking points, and press materials; support with public events; and assist with media outreach.

 

The ideal candidate is well-versed in labor, social, and political issues, an excellent and versatile writer, and creative about campaign communications. They are also self-motivated, enthusiastic about building powerful campaigns, and able to explain complex issues in a way that is accessible to a broad audience.

 

About Climate Jobs National Resource Center

The Climate Jobs National Resource Center (CJNRC) is a labor-led organization that works to combat climate change and reverse extreme inequality. CJNRC supports a network of union-led, state-based climate jobs coalitions in Connecticut, Illinois, Maine, New York, Rhode Island, Texas and a growing number of states. The coalitions we support have succeeded in winning the nation’s strongest labor and equity standards for climate investments, built
campaigns to harness public funds to invest in carbon-free and healthy schools, and trained union members on the science of climate change.

 

Responsibilities:
● Support development and implementation of an organizational communications strategy.
● Develop messaging consistent with organizational mission and priorities.
● Drive CJNRC’s social media strategy, grow engagement and audience metrics across CJNRC’s social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook), and help with managing digital ads.
● Support with maintenance of CJNRC’s website.
● Draft press releases, op-eds, brochures, flyers, speeches, talking points, and other organizational materials, as assigned.

● Support campaign communications for a growing number of state-level, union-led coalitions.
● Closely coordinate with staff and campaign teams, including organizing, policy, and research staff.
● Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications
● 1-3 years experience as a full-time communicator on an organizing or policy campaign.
Preferably experience working on campaigns with labor unions.
● A demonstrated passion for social and economic justice.
● Excellent writing and oral communications skills.
● Social media experience.
● Experience working with WordPress, Google Suite, CMS platforms like Mailchimp/Constant Contact.
● Ability to take creative direction, juggle multiple simultaneous projects and effectively manage competing priorities.
● Proficiency in graphic design preferred.
● Experience with photography and creating or editing videos is a plus.

 

Working conditions: This is a full-time remote position. Long hours will be required on occasion. When conditions are amenable, the position will require some travel. CJNRC will follow public health guidance related to the Covid-19 pandemic.
