Position Summary:

The Project Director, Policy and Impact will provide staff support to the Vice President of Policy and Impact, as well as the Director, Research and Analytics, for a range of initiatives, with a focus on two areas of work that are critical to our organization: the Key Distinguishers of Work-Based Learning (KDs); and direct advocacy efforts to generate support for expanded and enhanced work-based learning and career pathways in New York City’s public high schools, CUNY’s post secondary programs, and employers.

The Key Distinguishers of Work-Based Learning (KDs) are an effort by HERE to HERE to combine research, as well as feedback from practitioners, to develop standards of practice for various settings in the field of work-based learning (like LEED certification for work-based learning). HERE to HERE has developed initial drafts of these materials, and plans to use them as a vehicle for our strategy and implementation plans for the next two years. In the Spring and Summer of 2020, we adapted them to create KDs for Virtual Internships in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and used them to guide grantmaking in support of 2020 summer internship programs.

Working closely with the Director, Research and Analytics, who leads the research effort to develop the content of the KDs, the Project Director will manage the process of the next iteration of the KDs through coordinating learning communities and integrating feedback. The position will also work with the VP, Policy and Impact to determine a policy agenda that supports the resources that schools, employers, and other practitioners need in order to implement the KDs. The Project Director will work with staff across the organization to help our networks of schools and partners begin to implement and measure the impact of use of the KDs.

Working closely with the Vice President, Policy and Impact, the Project Director will contribute to HERE to HERE’s broad-based advocacy efforts aimed at increasing support for expanded and enhanced work-based learning and career pathways efforts in New York City public high schools, CUNY’s postsecondary programs, and employers. Advocacy efforts will include participation in existing coalitions and networks with similar objectives; building relationships with organizations and individuals who have yet to become part of the movement for change in this direction; and assisting with the production of materials aimed at these goals. Eventually, we hope to bring these two areas of work together, so that the KD networks become the vehicle through which much or our advocacy activities are conducted.

Both of these areas of work will require a candidate with the skills, experience, and desire to connect with individuals and organizations external to HERE to HERE, learn about their interests and motivations, and support their engagement with our organization.
