Job Description Reports to the Associate Director, Supervisor. The Center for Women’s Global Leadership (CWGL) is the global coordinator of the Post 2015 Women’s Coalition which is an international network of feminist, women’s rights, women’s development, grassroots and social justice organizations working through advocacy and movement, building to challenge and reframe the global development agenda. The Program Coordinator organizes, administers, and coordinates multiple facets of programs, projects, and/or processes with the planning, preparation, evaluation, and control of communications, events, records, statistics, reports, and documents. Oversees the administration of the Post 2015 women’s Coalition and facilitates the realization of women’s rights and gender equality. Facilitates the production of advocacy materials in multiple languages; shares relevant information, engages in informed advocacy at the national and regional levels, and feeds into the global process to ensure that women’s rights and gender equality are at the center of all discussions and goal settings. Works with the Communication Consultant to update and maintain the coalition’s website. Manages the coalition’s listservs, social media channels, and statements and resources on the Post 2015 sustainable development agenda. Assists with the undertaking of on-site evaluations of programs and services, assesses service levels and program progress, and prepares appropriate recommendations. Serves as liaison with various public and private institutions and agencies to determine special program requirements, modifications, or innovations. Work is consistent with an understanding of the mission, vision, role, and goals of the administrative, academic, or a research unit.
Job Requirements Requires a bachelor’s degree in international development, global affairs, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge of development policy and the United Nations. Must have excellent writing, communication, planning, organizational and computer (web content management, listservs, and social media) skills and be able to manage multiple priorities with ease and build collaborative relationships with diverse partners. Also requires a minimum of two years relevant experience in international development or global affairs. A master’s degree and experience in women’s organizations, rights-based or social justice work, project management and knowledge of the Post 2015 process preferred.

Position Description and Responsibilities
We seek a talented and dedicated person to join our team as Operations Manager. This position will report to the
Executive Director and be responsible for (but not limited to):

Office Management: Oversees smooth functioning of the office servicing ALIGN staff and subtenants; Leads and
supervises office processes and systems including vendor management and building and space management; Develops
benchmarks to maintain or improve overall efficiency; Develops and maintains efficient file systems with emphasis on
consistent records management; Develops and maintains general office procedures; Coordinates logistics for and records
key organizational meetings and events; Maintains office supplies; Manages office calendaring, visitor requests and visitor
desk assignments; Works with staff to address daily needs, maintain office cleanliness and organization.

Financial Management: Works closely with external accountant to manage daily financial activities including accounts
payable, expense policies, income tracking, invoicing and petty cash; Performs basic bookkeeping functions in Quickbooks;
Maintains consistent accounting records; Works with external accountant to prepare regular financial reports and bank
reconciliations; Works with accountant, lawyer, and consultants on internal control policies; Tracks subgrants and
coordinates with other nonprofits regarding collective reimbursements and invoicing.

Human Resources: Works closely with outsourced payroll and benefits provider (PEO) to manage payroll and benefits;
Establishes and tracks employee records; Provides administrative assistance in addressing personnel concerns; Creates and
implements onboarding and exit procedures; Maintains HR policies according to policy manual;

Administration & Technology: Manages the IT Consulting firm to troubleshoot technology issues; Manages and maintains
tech inventory; Provides basic tech support and database support; Administers the database (CivicCRM) to keep consistent
data on donors and stakeholders; Creates and organizes mass mailings from conception to completion; Creates and posts
website and email content for funders and stakeholders.

Special Projects: Manages special projects by Executive Director including creating request for proposals for new
outsourced vendors, assisting with the revision of the policy manual and implementing recommendations from financial
and legal consultants; Assists staff members on projects requiring administrative tasks, mailings or due diligence.

Event Planning: Coordinating annual event including working with staff to pull together guest list, book event venue and
organize and assign event logistics.

Executive Support: Provide direct administrative support to the Executive Director as needed including keeping track of
appointments on calendar, some scheduling and meeting logistical support; Records quarterly board meetings and helps to
implement Board resolutions.

Qualifications:
• At least four years of experience in non-profit sector or job areas similar to those outlined above
• Demonstrate initiative and work as a team player
• Handle detailed, complex tasks and problems and make rapid decisions regarding management and development issues
• Ability to manage multiple tasks in a deadline-driven office
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
• Self-directed, detail-oriented, able to handle multiple projects and responsibilities, proven problem-solving skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and experience using database systems for fundraising. Experience using
CiviCRM a plus

Director of Civic Engagement and Movement Politics at Community Voices Heard

Community Voices Heard (CVH) is a member-led multi-racial organization, principally women of color and low-income families in New York State that builds power to secure social, economic and racial justice for all. We are a multi-issue, multi-chapter organization working to build local and statewide power to win important political and policy victories. Our core organizing issues include fighting for a just social safety net, good jobs and access to them, truly affordable housing, a participatory democracy, and a fair share tax system. CVH has an affiliated 501(c)4 social welfare organization, CVH Power Inc., that leads lobbying and voter engagement work around an array of issues that affect low-income families.

CVH/ CVH-P seeks a visionary, action-oriented, collaborative leader for its political and electoral organizing work. The ideal candidate will have a deep grounding in building power in communities of color, experience integrating issue and electoral campaigns, and the political sophistication necessary to lead and significantly grow CVH/ CVH-P’s political and electoral organizing work to its next level of power and influence in the progressive movement and political sphere in New York State.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director of Civic Engagement & Movement Politics leads work to:

  • Increase progressive political & electoral power of low-income communities of color
  • Engage voters on core progressive values
  • Run issue campaigns that advance people power public policy
  • Build a volunteer powered and led election program
  • Raise independent money from individuals to fund the movement

The Director of Civic Engagement & Movement Politics will be a part of the senior staff team at the organization and work closely with the Executive Director and Director of Organizing as well as a team of organizers and member-leaders.

Specifically, the Director of Civic Engagement & Movement Politics is accountable for the following:

Civic Engagement Responsibilities

  • Build out a year-round integrated voter engagement program that supports and enhances the ongoing and deeper organizational organizing work
  • Plan and supervise electoral program and field activities to advance issue agenda and campaigns’ power
  • Coordinate mass-base field efforts and activities on behalf of campaigns, such as phone-banks and canvasses
  • Ensure training and education of members and leaders for legislative and electoral activity
  • Experiment with the building and utilization of a broader online base of support for CVH campaign work – experimenting with both member outreach via new mediums (e.g. texting) and ally outreach (e.g. campaign websites)

Political Responsibilities

  • Develop political strategy for organization and campaigns
  • Develop & execute a candidate endorsement process as well as 501(c)4 appropriate independent expenditure campaigns with CVH Power members & leaders
  • Develop and maintain critical relationships with key contacts at unions, ally organizations, and in elected official offices
  • Support development and implementation of local and statewide public policy agendas and corresponding campaigns based on identified membership needs and interests

Organization Building Responsibilities

  • Develop organizational strategy, policies, procedures, and infrastructure for CVH Power
  • Lead efforts around union and political fundraising; support dues drives
  • Track, review, and report pertinent expenditures across both organizations
  • Prepare written proposals and reports as necessary for the legislative and electoral work
  • Coordinate regular updates to members, political allies, donors, and other constituencies

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will be highly driven and self-motivated – ready to work in a fast-paced environment and juggle multiple projects and tasks:

  • Applicants must be committed to building community power, membership decision-making, radical politics & our theory of social change.
  • More than 4 years community organizing, union organizing, political/ electoral organizing, and/ or legislative issue advocacy experience required.
  • Experience working in and/or leading 501c(4) organizations preferred.
  • Self-direction and initiative to move a new and evolving organization and its program forward.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills.
  • Knowledge of and passion around New York State and local city and county politics.
  • Facility with websites and social media; knowledge of html a bonus.
  • Experience supervising, training &/ or managing other staff and interns desired.
  • Spanish language skills are strongly desired, but not required.
  • Regular access to a car important; ability to drive required.

This is a full-time position that we are looking to fill immediately. The position will report to the Executive Director and will be based out of one of our four offices (NYC, Westchester, Newburgh or Poughkeepsie). The Director of Civic Engagement and Movement Politics will spend a considerable amount of time between the offices in addition to occasional travel to Albany, national meetings and conferences, as well as attendance at evening and weekend meetings.

NYC Internship Program: Workplace Organizing Training

New York Communities for Change (NYCC) seeks candidates committed to social and economic justice who are currently living in the New York City area who are looking for organizing training and experience.
 
Through a paid entry-level internship program, NYCC provide training and education on organizing within key sectors of the largely non-unionized workforce. Participants will learn the fundamentals of a labor organizing campaign and develop skills to implement new models for building power and improving standards within a growing industry.
 
Applicants should be available to commit to 2-3 months to the program. Those with the following characteristics will be preferred:

AFM Local 802 Director of Organizing and Field Services

Description:

Local 802 is the largest local union of professional musicians in the world. We represent musicians working in New York City, Sullivan, Nassau, and Suffolk counties, NY and parts of Connecticut. Our mission is to fight for the interests and well being of the musicians employed in New York’s music and entertainment industries through organizing and collective bargaining as well as through legislative and political action. The union represents under collective bargaining agreements Broadway theater musicians, off-Broadway theater musicians, symphonic musicians, recording musicians, club date musicians and others.

The position will involve supervising field staff in the single engagement industry (weddings, society functions), hotels, nightclubs and all non-symphonic freelance music. In addition, the position requires planning and supervision of organizing in all musical fields, working closely with the Recording Vice President. Areas of focus will include contract campaigns, internal organizing, new member organizing,as well as issue campaigns outside of traditional collective bargaining context. We are currently involved in a major campaign to unionize jazz, Latin and other music clubs in New York City.

Responsibilities:

  1. Work with the Recording Vice-President and leadership of the Union to plan and execute organizing strategy of the union.
  2. Work with the Recording Vice-President and leadership of the Union to plan and execute issue campaigns in the fields of Latin, jazz, rock and other freelance independent fields of music in order to achieve better conditions for all musicians in the greater New York City area.
  3. Manage and supervise organizers and field staff in Club Date, Hotel, Nightclub and Jazz, as well as staff in other departments on their organizing assignments.
  4. Work with an Administrative Assistant in contract administration and enforcement.
  5. Conduct or facilitate training of organizers as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in union organizing campaigns including union elections and strategic campaigns.
  • At least two years of experience and demonstrated success and ability in providing direction and leadership to organizing and field staff with varied levels of experience.
  • At least two years Supervisory experience
  • Experience in developing and implementing a major campaign.
  • Experience in and/or knowledge of the music industry highly desirable, especially jazz and other live music genres.
  • The Director will be expected to assist the local’s Recording Vice President and other staff to coordinate the Union’s organizing efforts and to develop and implement long-term industry initiatives and campaigns.
