POSITION DETAILS

In collaboration with eight of CUNY’s senior campuses, Macaulay Honors College (MHC) provides the most promising undergraduate students with an elite academic program of interdisciplinary seminars, personalized advisement, and experiential learning supported by dedicated funding for study abroad, internships, and research. With an entering class of approximately 550 students distributed on campuses across the five boroughs of New York City, Macaulay’s student body embraces the diversity of New York and represents the best and brightest of our next generation of leaders.

The office of Student Development provides educational co-curricular programs and activities for Macaulay College students. Reporting to the Director of Student development, the Assistant Director for Student Development will provide students with a full complement of leadership development and service learning opportunities. The Assistant Director will have excellent leadership training skills, providing staff and students with regular training opportunities and will be able to work collaboratively with academic departments, administrators and advisors from multiple campuses.

Duties includes but are not limited to:

  • Coordinates to help present informational and educational programs, such as student leadership and training and orientation; assists with the development, monitoring and maintenance of student organization and event databases;
  • Assists with electronic and traditional advertising/announcements of student activities connecting to existing channels such as Macaulay Monday, social media, websites and other channels– as generated by both the Director as well as by student leaders, themselves;
  • Provides administrative and logistical assistance, as well as mentor student leaders, for ongoing activities and events including but not limited to: New Student Orientation program; Macaulay Arts Night; Social Events and Formals; Club Fairs; Large scale-club events;
  • Assists in the supervision over activities, staff and programs of the student activities area, policies and procedures, and conduct frequent assessment of participant data and program attendance;
  • Acts as the primary liaison to various student organizations and clubs throughout the college;
  • Oversees student inclusion initiatives, student identity based groups, and student driven diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives;
  • Creates and implements leadership programs or administrative groups aimed at developing new student leaders and increasing the number of student leaders at the College;
  • Serves as a member of Macaulay Student Support (Behavioral Intervention) Team; meeting and communicating with students in need of support;
  • Oversees planning and implementation of all on-and-off campus events for student clubs and organization, including weekends, and chaperone various student domestic or abroad trips on behalf of the college;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree and four years’ related experience required.

A preferred candidate should have:

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration or Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience with Student Affairs.
  • Experience with Student Activities in drama, music, and/or athletics.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekend hours.
  • Experience with student events and orientation.
