The Fortune Society Seeks Outreach Worker (LIC, Queens, NY)

Days/Hours: Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., subject to change depending on program needs

Position Summary:

Responsible for implementing a successful outreach and recruitment strategy in at-risk and underserved geographical areas in Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, and the Bronx. S/he will support the efforts of the Senior Outreach Worker by representing the Fortune Society while canvassing specific community areas to identify and engage potential jobseekers who have prior criminal justice histories. Presentations at community- and faith-based organizations may also be required. This position is expected to last approximately 9 months.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Represent the Fortune Society in a professional manner with potential participants and partners at a variety of agencies and organizations in Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, and the Bronx;
  • Receive daily/weekly field schedule from the Manager of Career Advisement and provide daily, accurate/transparent reports of areas covered and outreach made;
  • Canvass designated areas for qualified jobseekers and provide flyers/basic information on Fortune’s Employment Services with the goal of increasing enrollment leads for the organization;
  • With the assistance of the Manager of Career Advisement and Senior Outreach Worker, identify target sites and strategies for recruiting eligible participants into the program;
  • Provide partner feedback to Manager or Career Advisement;
  • Provide real-time, actionable recommendations on how to maximize outcomes for the program; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED/HSE preferred;
  • Experience in outreach efforts preferred;
  • Experience working with at risk and/or formerly incarcerated individuals a plus;
  • Ability to travel throughout the boroughs and work outside;
  • Ability to represent the core services of the Fortune Society’s programs to a varied audience;
  • Strong knowledge of productive locations to do outreach in the boroughs listed above;
  • Clear concise communication skills and an engaging, professional demeanor;
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish a plus; and

Travel Requirements: Requires extensive travel throughout Brooklyn, the Bronx, Manhattan and Queens.
