BlueGreen Alliance Seeks Federal Communications Director (Washington, DC)

Job Summary:

BGA is seeking a Federal Communications Director (FCD), based in Washington, D.C., to lead the organization’s media and communications effort surrounding federal policy and legislation priorities. This position will report directly to the Executive Vice President, and will work with BGA’s legislative and policy department to develop and implement dynamic and aggressive earned and social media campaigns around key priorities, including climate change, safe chemicals, clean infrastructure, and international trade. BGA is seeking an enthusiastic communications professional with a positive attitude and fresh perspective.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

· The FCD is primarily responsible for national media and communications planning and execution. Working with the Executive Vice President, the FCD will develop and implement a dynamic plan to enhance BGA’s media presence and brand identity and to “move the dial” on key priority issues.
· In coordination with the Executive Vice President, the FCD will develop and execute a federal media and communications plan consistent with BGA’s brand and communications goals.
· Working with the BGA Legislation and Policy Department, the FCD will monitor developments regarding key priorities and legislation, generate and develop ideas to enhance BGA’s voice on these key issues, and develop content for BGA’s communications channels in pursuit of those objectives.
· The FCD will field all national/federal media inquiries, develop national/federal media outreach, plan media events and press calls, and work with national partners to identify and plan media opportunities. FCS will maintain national press contact lists.
· The FCD will lead the social media effort regarding federal or national policy issues, working to increase our engagement and audience for our networks by capitalizing on strategic national or federal events and opportunities consistent with BGA’s brand.
· The FCD will work closely with the Executive Director and the Executive Vice President to build BGA’s presence in media and to craft principle-specific content.
· Other duties as required.

Skills & Qualifications:

· Candidate should have 7-10 years of experience in communications, public relations, journalism, or related profession.
· Ideal candidate is prepared for or has experience working in a fast-paced environment, including experience working on an electoral or issue campaign.
· General familiarity or previous experience working with labor unions and environmental organizations is preferred, along with a familiarity of clean economy issues including climate change, energy, and/or workers’ rights.
· Candidate should have track record in building relationships with reporters, as well as on-the-record experience.
· Candidate must possess the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and strong time management and project management skills.
· Candidate must bring to the position excellent written and verbal communications skills, strong interpersonal skills, the ability to collaborate with other staff and partners, and a deep commitment to and enthusiasm for the work of the BlueGreen Alliance.
