National Domestic Workers Alliance Seeks Fair Care Pledge Campaign Manager

Position Summary:

In January 2015, the National Domestic Workers Alliance and Hand in Hand: The Domestic Employers Network, launched the Fair Care Pledge, a groundbreaking new campaign aimed at raising standards for domestic workers. Five months later at the Clinton Global Initiative America, we joined forces with the largest global care marketplace, Care.com, to further widen the reach of this campaign, a partnership that was highlighted by former President Bill Clinton on the floor of CGI and featured in The Washington Post.

The Fair Care Pledge is a consumer-facing campaign that seeks to elevate the value of care work, change employer behavior, and transform norms in the care industry. It calls on employers of domestic workers—nannies/childcare providers, caregivers to seniors and people with disabilities, and housecleaners—to pledge to become fair and respectful employers by taking three steps: paying a fair wage, creating clear expectations, and providing paid time off. Individual employers are asked to recognize that their home is someone’s workplace, take steps to make their home a “workplace they can be proud of,” and bring the fair care message to their own networks.

About NDWA & Fair Care Labs

The National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA) is the nation’s leading voice for dignity and fairness for the millions of domestic workers in the United States, most of whom are women. Founded in 2007, NDWA works for the respect, recognition, and inclusion in labor protections for domestic workers. Fair Care Labs is the innovation arm of the domestic worker movement. Our mission is to shape the future of the care industry and emerging care markets. Our main focus is on raising market norms and standards, partnering with the private sector, and building scalable and sustainable business ventures.

About Hand in Hand

Hand in Hand is a national network of employers of nannies, housecleaners and home attendants, our families and allies, who are grounded in the conviction that dignified and respectful working conditions benefit worker and employer alike. We envision a future where people live in caring communities that recognize all of our interdependence. To get there, we support employers to improve their employment practices, and to collaborate with workers to change cultural norms and public policies that bring dignity and respect to domestic workers and all of our communities.

Responsibilities:

NDWA and Hand in Hand are now looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Fair Care Pledge Campaign Manager who can lead the campaign.Your goal will be to change the employment norms and behavior of hundreds of thousands of existing and future employers. You will focus primarily on generating content to support Pledge signers to make good on the Pledge standards engaging signers in campaign activities, and tracking signers and developing mechanisms for measuring impact. You will be responsible for moving the Fair Care Pledge through existing and new partnerships with thought leaders, members of the business community, and others. You will play a significant role in helping employers of domestic workers navigate the terrain of employment and create a movement of fair employers who support policies on a range of issues that impact their families and the people they employ.

This is an unparalleled opportunity to invent new ways to create culture and behavioral change. You will bridge one of the country’s leading social justice movements and one of the largest tech companies in our sector. It’s an exciting position that will give you freedom to innovate but will require you to ‘drive’ and consistently find opportunities and openings to advance the campaign.  Some of your responsibilities will include:

Content development: Develop and generate engaging content targeted towards potential and existing pledge signers. Create materials for digital and print content to help families make fair employment a reality. Test messaging to identify most effective means of reaching and activating a wider audience.

Conversion: Lead our digital team in creating a positive user experience for pledge signers, and ensure that pledge signers stay active and engaged. Develop tools for identifying, measuring, and furthering the impact of the pledge.

Partnerships: Engage, develop and strengthen relationships with cross-section of existing and new partners across business, social enterprise, and family-centered organizations and networks. Work with partners to effectively promote the pledge and provide effective creative campaign strategies.

Who We’re Looking For

You are ambitious, focused and hard-driving in your pursuit raising standards for domestic workers. You believe in promoting fair wages and compensation to caregivers. You love the challenge of finding new ways of doing things, not just replicating existing strategies. You’ve got organizer smarts and want to work collaboratively with business. You know how to ask for help when you’re spinning your wheels. You raise disagreements agreeably. You are comfortable with virtual communication and supervision.
