National Domestic Workers Alliance Seeks Fair Care Pledge Campaign Manager

Position Summary:

In January 2015, the National Domestic Workers Alliance and Hand in Hand: The Domestic Employers Network, launched the Fair Care Pledge, a groundbreaking new campaign aimed at raising standards for domestic workers. Five months later at the Clinton Global Initiative America, we joined forces with the largest global care marketplace, Care.com, to further widen the reach of this campaign, a partnership that was highlighted by former President Bill Clinton on the floor of CGI and featured in The Washington Post.

The Fair Care Pledge is a consumer-facing campaign that seeks to elevate the value of care work, change employer behavior, and transform norms in the care industry. It calls on employers of domestic workers—nannies/childcare providers, caregivers to seniors and people with disabilities, and housecleaners—to pledge to become fair and respectful employers by taking three steps: paying a fair wage, creating clear expectations, and providing paid time off. Individual employers are asked to recognize that their home is someone’s workplace, take steps to make their home a “workplace they can be proud of,” and bring the fair care message to their own networks.
