Under the supervision of the the Technology Manager, the LMS/Web Applications Developer conducts the design, implementation and administration of core Training Fund Systems. This includes the Learning Management System (LMS), Student Registration System, Trianing Fund Website, and numerous back-office systems that the Training Fund relies on for day-to-day operations.

Primary Responsabilities:

  • Records & Registration: Handle the design, implementation, and operation of all Training Fund systems, highlighted by core systems that manage the registration and placement of all students. Act as the primary technical resource for a newly adopted Learning Management System. Interface existing DotNetNuke modules with backend Learning Management System via API or other tools. Act as liaison with IT to coordinate the bi-weekly HRIS feeds to the Learning Management System

  • Infrastructure & Business Processes: Design and implement systems, websites, business processes, communication protocols, staff trainings, etc. to increase organizational efficiency and member satisfaction.

Technical Skills:

  • Superior technical skills with a particular focus on general programming acumen

Under the supervision of the Director, the LMS & Technology Manager supervises a team of five and oversees the operational and administrative functions of the Training Fund, including technology, infrastructure & business processes, research and evaluation, records and registration, communications, online course registration and management, and quality assurance.

Oversight Responsibilities:

  • Technology: Manage existing and incorporate new technologies into the Fund. Manage technology staff and liaise with IT to achieve organizational goals.
  • Learning Management System: Lead the implementation of a new Learning Management System and maintain all aspects of the system after go-live.
  • Infrastructure & Business Processes: Design and implement systems, websites, business processes, communication protocols, staff trainings, etc. to increase organizational efficiency and member satisfaction.

  • Online Course Registration & Management: Identify and launch online courses in topic areas consistent with members’ job responsibilities. Handle on-boarding process, follow-up to members who don’t complete, communication of scores to LMS and vendor management.
  • Research & Evaluation: Design, deliver, institutionalize, and analyze results of rigorous and academically valid tools to assess the effectiveness of programs and services in the context of student learning outcomes and the Training Fund’s strategic plan.
  • Quality Assurance: Maintain an intensive quality assurance program for all LMS and other projects in the department; manage weekly meetings where scores are delivered to relevant staff and managers.

DSA Seeks Applicants for Multiple Roles (NYC & DC)

Title: Traveling Organizer

Location: New York City with extensive travel nationally

Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), the largest socialist organization in the United States, is seeking an organizer to travel to our existing and newly formed local chapters in the next three months. In the wake of a 35% membership spike since the election, this position will help connect our grassroots groups and prepare them for the struggles ahead.
DSA is a member-funded organization and our democratic socialist chapters carry out educational and organizing campaigns to build poor and working class power in their communities and on college and high school campuses.
This full-time position is based in DSA’s small national office in New York City (lower Manhattan) but the organizer will be on the road most of the time. The position may include projects for both DSA, a 501(c)(4) and educational work for our affiliated 501(c)(3), the Democratic Socialists of America Fund. The position is temporary, for three months, and is supervised by the National Director.

Responsibilities
  • Visit DSA community chapters, high school and college campus chapters, and small groups hoping to develop chapters, across the country.

  • Meet with grassroots leaders to discuss national and local organizing and political priorities.

  • Coach local leaders in organizing practices and skills as needed.

  • Share ideas between local chapters.

  • Connect local groups with national educational and activist resources.

  • Communicate with other national staff and leadership about what grassroots groups need and want.

Title: Assistant Youth Organizer

Location: Washington, DC
Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), the largest and fastest growing socialist organization in the United States, is seeking temporary part time organizing support for our student section, the Young Democratic Socialists (YDS). YDS is a political activist organization of dozens of high school and college campus-based chapters of younger (under 30) socialists who build democratic socialist politics, vision and culture in the United States. DSA is a member-funded organization with chapters who carry out educational and activist campaigns to build grassroots poor and working class power in their communities.
This part-time position is based in Washington, D.C. and includes basic clerical activities as well as significant time spent on phone calls organizing student activists across the country. Some travel will be required. The position may include projects for both DSA, a 501(c)(4) and for our affiliated 501(c)(3), the Democratic Socialists of America Fund. The position is temporary, for three months, and is supervised by the Deputy Director.
The Assistant Youth organizer is tasked with aiding the maintenance and growth of YDS. Duties include recruiting new members, identifying new leaders, helping new chapters grow, and working with elected and volunteer leadership to foster the talents, skills, and activism of existing members and chapters. The YDS organizer will work with DSA staff and YDS leadership on a February youth conference and maintaining YDS membership data.
Ideal candidates should have extensive student organizing experience. A good understanding of intersectional democratic socialism and the politics and organization of DSA, excellent social skills, and talent for explaining YDS politics and projects to a broad audience are essential. Ability to multitask but accomplish tasks on time by staying organized, to work independently and as part of a team, and to work with people of diverse backgrounds are required.

Rockaway Youth Task Force Seeks Youth Organizer (NYC)

RYTF’s Youth Organizer will be responsible for developing, implementing, and directly overseeing our grassroots youth organizing and programming. The chosen candidate will mobilize targeted youth throughout the Rockaway Peninsula to engage in leadership development, skills training, and organizing around a range of social, racial, and food justice issues. This position reports directly to the Executive Director.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Recruit and base-build with RYTF Members
  • Implement RYTF’s leadership development curriculum
  • Develop, implement, and manage a grassroots organizing strategy that will engage youth in advocacy and issue area campaigns
  • Improve youth participation in RYTF’s campaigns & activities
  • Develop, implement, and manage a curriculum that builds the necessary skills of RYTF Youth to act as organizers, advocates, and leaders in youth and adult-dominant spaces

New Settlement Apartments (NSA) is a not-for-profit housing and community service organization located in an underserved area of the southwest Bronx. We have a 25-year track record of active commitment to neighborhood revitalization and community development, including working towards excellence in community public schools. Year-round community services, education programs and our housing serves, serve over 15,000 youth and adults each year.

Community Action for Safe Apartments (CASA), New Settlement’s Housing Organizing initiative, has been working since 2005 to build tenant power through community organizing to not only address prevailing threats to tenants’ rights and existing affordable housing stock, but to expand access to safe and affordable housing. CASA works primarily in Community Board 4 (CB4), or the Highbridge/Concourse section of the southwest Bronx, but our campaigns often pursue city- and state-wide impact and thus work with vibrant and diverse coalitions.

We conduct strategic outreach and organize tenant associations, provide monthly housing workshops and legal clinics, hold monthly membership meetings and both lead and participate in city and state-wide policy campaigns. Our recent campaign work has focused on reforming Housing Court (including but not limited to a citywide campaign to guarantee universal access to representation for all tenants who find themselves in Housing Court), building city-wide support for a rent freeze for all rent-stabilized units, a city- and state-level campaign to end non-rent fees and associated harassment, and most recently, launching a campaign for the participatory rezoning of the Southwest Bronx.All of our campaigns are member-envisioned, member-led and member-implemented.

In October and March 2015, we were awarded the Standing Up for Justice Award by the MinKwon Center for Community Action and the Ally Organization Award by CAAAV, respectively. In September 2014, we were awarded the Activist Award by the Urban Justice Center for our ‘long-standing dedication to building the power of Bronx tenants and fiercely advocating for affordable housing” and in March of 2013 we received an Excellence in Neighborhood Organizing Award from the Association of Neighborhood and Housing Development, for our tenant organizing work. Job Responsibilities:

Guided by the Director, the Deputy Director and in coordination with other organizers and interns, the Lead Organizer will work to strengthen CASA’s broad base of members, who are committed to housing justice, understand what it takes to build a movement and are prepared to take bold action to transform the quality and affordability of housing in the Southwest Bronx.The Lead Organizer’s Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Building a Strong Base of Members through:

Organize Tenants’ Associations: We organize so that landlord harassment stops, repairs are done, people can stay in their homes, communities are stabilized, and ultimately so that people know and claim their own power. Our model is to develop steering committees that work collectively based on people’s skills, interests and time. We teach leaders how to facilitate meetings, make flyers, write letters, run press conferences, pressure the banks, meet with their landlords and lobby resources like HPD. Our goal is to develop tenants’ associations that can ultimately operate independently of our support while bringing members of tenants association into our organization and developing them as leaders to lead our campaigns.

Conducting Effective Outreach and Base building Work: Using various and creative methods to recruit new members, keeping accurate records, assessing potential members, and effectively meeting goals to turnout members to key actions and events.

  • Leadership Development: The organizer will constantly work to develop the skills, capacity and analysis of our members through informal and formal leadership development work. The organizer will work to encourage participation and a sense of ownership among members.
  • Campaign Strategy and Development: We have three active campaigns: The Campaign to Reform the Bronx Housing Court, which includes the fight for the right to counsel and the Campaign for a Rent Freeze and the Campaign for a Just Rezoning of Jerome Ave. We are looking for an organizer to join our team who can help lead one of these important campaigns which includes mobilizing for actions, developing campaign strategy and innovative tactics, conducting research, working with media, etc.
  • Supervise 2-3 community organizers working on housing justice issues.
  • Actively Participate in and Develop our Organizational Capacity: This includes participating in and prepping members to facilitate our monthly CASA Membership Meetings, creating and facilitating regular workshops specific to housing rights, laws and processes, seeking out training and learning opportunities, facilitating staff meetings, actively participating in staff retreats, keeping up with database and reporting requirements and thinking through ways to develop CASA into the organization it can and should be.

Young Women’s Leadership Initiative Seeks Coordinator (Consultant – NYC)

  • Reports to: Assistant Director of Prevention Programs
  • Work Location: This position is based in our New York City office.
  • Consulting Period: Mid-December/January through June 2017
  • Contract Hours:21-28 hours/week
  • Hourly rate: $28-32, depending on experience.
  • Work Schedule: Flexible schedule needed. Monday-Friday preferred (occasional evenings and/or weekends may be requested)

Organizational Overview: Founded in 2000, the New York City Alliance Against Sexual Assault’s mission is to prevent sexual violence and reduce the harm it causes through education, research and advocacy. The Alliance works closely with the city’s rape crisis programs and hospitals, District Attorney’s Offices, New York Police Department, court officials and city leaders to develop and implement best practices and policies, raise public awareness, and create sustainable change for survivors.

Position Description: The New York City Alliance Against Sexual Assault (the Alliance) received funding to train and mentor at least 45 -60 young women of color (age 13-21) from Black, Latino/a, and South Asian communities to become impactful organizers and change makers to combat sexual violence within their communities. Project DOT’s Young Women’s Leadership Initiative will engage young women of color from these 3 communities in multi-session (8-12) curriculum-based community activism using a healthy relationship and sexual violence prevention framework. The leadership program will culminate with a leadership practicum where young leaders will go into their communities and participate in a range of community organizing activities to engage local businesses, families and other youth in sexual violence prevention. The project is part of a larger citywide anti-sexual violence youth campaign targeting the three above-mentioned communities. The proposed community mobilization activities of this project will help reinforce the city-wide campaign messaging in the target communities. While there are similar youth leadership projects implemented across other US states, the uniqueness of the Alliance’s proposed program lies in its grassroots community-based approach, which engages young women of color to inspire community-level changes by leveraging their voices and creating a space for them to foster tangible leadership skills.

The consultant will be responsible for coordination of all prevention activities under Project DOT’s Young Women’s Leadership Initiative. In this role, the consultant will manage the day-to-day program administration and facilitate communication between and among the subcontracting partners, and the Alliance in order to ensure the program goals and objectives are met. Additionally, s/he will be responsible for managing the youth workshop planning and facilitation, outreach and mobilization components of the program.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate all prevention activities under Project DOT’s Young Women’s Leadership Initiative and ensure that program activities are carried out according to the approved timeline.
  • Manage all aspect of youth workshop including coordinating logistics, planning content, developing curriculum and organizing and facilitating all youth workshops in collaboration with partners.
  • Manage social media platform to engage youth and keep youth participants abreast with the project activities.
  • Plan and coordinate community mobilization activities with youth in each community.
  • Assist with designing and implementing project evaluation including collecting and compiling evaluation data, conducting focus groups and when necessary, generating summary reports.
  • Facilitate communication among program partners to ensure partners are onboard with the project activities.
  • Work with partners to coordinate all prevention and outreach activities.
  • Assist with preparing grant and project reports.
  • Assist with additional program activities as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Masters level education in public health, sociology, gender studies, or related field. Bachelor’s degree will be considered for candidates with strong youth engagement and/or organizing background.
  • Minimum three (3) years of professional level training and experience working in the fields of public health, social justice, survivor advocacy and/or community engagement/ organizing.
  • Strong community organizing and/or youth engagement experience preferred.
  • Prior experience working with youth from diverse community desired
  • Demonstrated experience delivering oral presentations to diverse professionals and audiences, including workshops and presentations required.
  • Prior experience managing or participating in public health related social-media campaign as well as specific experience in primary prevention of intimate partner/ sexual violence or other related field(s) is a plus
  • Experience and knowledge in evaluation tools and data collection methods helpful.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well independently as well as in a team in a flexible, evolving environment.
  • Sensitivity to the impact of sexual violence in diverse and marginalized communities and the ability to articulate these concerns with regard to sexual violence in a sensitive and respectful manner.
  • Proven ability to work in a multi-racial environment, and commitment to social justice practice.

Salary/Compensation: $28-$32/hour, depending on experience.
