Trainer/Consultant with The Midwest Academy

POSITION SUMMARY

The Midwest Academy, a national training institute for progressive organizations, is seeking a full-time Trainer/Consultant. Our strong preference is to have this position located in Chicago, but there may be some flexibility; please indicate your willingness to locate in Chicago.

The Trainer/Consultant will work with other Midwest Academy training staff to conduct our five-day Organizing for Social Change training workshop for organizers from a wide variety of progressive organizations, as well as the Advanced and Supervisor workshops. She/he will also travel to provide onsite training and consulting to organizations, including skills training, strategic planning, organizational development and other topics. This person will be part of the Midwest Academy team developing opportunities to support the building of progressive leadership and infrastructure and powerful, strategic progressive organizing. This position reports to the Executive Director.

Communications Coordinator at The Vermont Workers’ Center

Communications Coordinator (full time): The Vermont Workers’ Center – Jobs with Justice (VWC) is accepting applications for a full time Communications Coordinator.

The Communications Coordinator is responsible for developing and carrying out the communications plan for the Healthcare is a Human Right Campaign and the Vermont Workers’ Center.

Details:

  • This position will be expected to work primarily in the Burlington and Montpelier offices.
  • Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to) spokesperson development, building relationships with journalists and pitching stories, written campaign materials, email blasts, website content, member development, content distribution, trainings, and social media.
  • Full time starting in early August.

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience with strategic communications work in a campaign context.

STAFF ATTORNEY

Job Description

The Worker Justice Center of NY seeks a staff attorney to manage an active docket of labor and employment law and civil rights cases, including class action lawsuits. The attorney will work closely with WJCNY staff and co-counsel and report to the Executive Director. S/he will also as needed conduct legal trainings for advocates and other attorneys. Applicant should possess a demonstrated interest in low-wage worker issues and have a strong commitment to providing legal services to low-income populations. The position is located in our office at 9 Main Street, Kingston, NY. 12401.

Qualifications

The candidate should possess a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the area of labor/employment or related areas of law. Must be admitted to practice in New York or be able to be admitted within a reasonable period of time. Proficiency in Spanish is preferred.

The Worker Justice Center of New York (WJCNY) is seeking to hire a full time legal assistant in our Kingston office. Working directly with WJCNY attorneys, paralegals, and other staff, the legal assistant will conduct legal intakes and direct client communication, handle case management duties, draft certain legal documents, assist in preparation of court appearances, participate in outreach on a limited basis if needed, and provide general office support. The position is located in our office at 9 Main Street, Kingston, NY. 12401.

Qualifications

Bachelor-level college degree or a demonstrated ability to perform the specific duties and responsibilities listed above. Two years experience working directly with farm workers, other low-wage workers, or immigrant communities. Experience working with legal organizations, other not-for-profits, or workplace safety issues a plus. Ability to work well in a team setting and demonstrate sensitivity to the cultural/ethnic diversity of the population we serve. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills and organizational skills. Fluency in Spanish a must. Additional language skills a plus.

Summer Position with UFT in NYC

Position Description for PROSE Assistant

Duties:

  • Create and maintain records and data related to PROSE, including but not limited to PROSE applications, budgets, and other relevant documents
  • Assist in preparing review reports of PROSE schools’ progress
  • Assist in research related to best practices in policies supported by PROSE, including but not limited to peer assessment and review, career ladders, class size, and other educational issues
  • Assist in maintaining internal and external communications with PROSE stakeholders, including current and prospective PROSE schools, UFT and DOE staff, and outside organizations
  • Assist in identifying, applying for, and disbursing additional public and private sources of funding to support the work of PROSE, including but not limited to state, federal, and local grants
  • Assist with analysis of PROSE outcomes, including tracking student outcome data and other relevant data on the PROSE’s impact and assisting in the selection of any outside evaluation selected for the project

Strongly Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Excellent writing and document creation skills (including knowledge of Microsoft Word)
  • Experience working on K-12 educational issues
  • Excellent spreadsheet and budget skills (including knowledge of Excel)

Temporary (6 Week) Position with SEIU Local 32BJ

The Contracts and Grievance Center of SEIU Local 32BJ is looking for a temporary, six-week, assistant in our New York City office. The assistant will help us ensure that members’ workplace disputes have been resolved and properly documented. The temporary assistant will review grievance files, interact with our members regarding their workplace issues, update our database with information obtained from members, coordinate with staff for appropriate follow up, and make sure that files are complete.

Essential Job Requirements:
(1) Communication and Interpersonal skills: The temporary assistant will have extensive contact with our members and must have strong listening and communication skills.
(2) Strong Writing and Computer Skills: The temporary assistant will be required to use the 32BJ databases and electronic grievance tracking systems during the performance of their job duties. Must also have strong writing skills for summarizing conversations with members and others.
(3) Written and Oral Bilingual Skills: Spanish/English.
(4) Must be able to work independently, manage a high volume workload, maintain organized files and thoroughly document all aspects of work.

Primary Duties: The temporary assistant will be responsible for assisting us work through grievance files to ensure that grievances have been resolved or moved to the next appropriate step in the grievance process, and that files slated for closing are complete. Candidates must be well organized, thorough, able to work independently, and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
