Urban Upbound Seeks Career Pathways Manager (NYC)

Background

Founded in 2004, the mission of Urban Upbound is break cycles of poverty in New York City public housing neighborhoods. We provide youth and adult residents with comprehensive integrated services in five key areas: employment services, financial counseling, income supports, community revitalization initiatives, and financial inclusion services anchored by the Urban Upbound Federal Credit Union.

Position Description

Reporting to the Assistant Director, the Career Pathways Manager is a key member of the Jobs-Plus Management team.  Focusing on Jobs Plus sector based industry Construction, the Career Pathways Manager will act as a liaison with employers in the construction field, travel to work sites in Queens that includes Far Rockaway to maintain relationships.  In this fast-paced position, the Career Pathways Manager oversees member assessments and engagement strategies leading to the attainment of educational, employment, retention, and advancement outcomes in the field of Construction for Queens Urban Upbound members.

Responsibilities

  • Building and maintaining relationships with construction employers and acting as a liaison for Urban Upbound/Jobs-Plus
  • Traveling to construction work sites in Queens that includes Far Rockaway; and attending employer meetings representing Urban Upbound and  Jobs Plus
  • Overseeing ongoing assessment of member progress including the administering of evaluation tools and other necessary assessments within the Construction sector
  • Developing and overseeing the implementation of innovative strategies and opportunities to engage members in employment readiness, educational access, job retention, and career advancement activities leading to employment outcomes within the Construction sector;
  • Maintaining regular communication with all relevant staff on member progress and participate in case conferencing with individual participants as needed;
  • Building on existing and establishing new partnerships with community based organizations (CBOs) and educational institutions to enhance members skill set within the Construction sector;
  • Coordinating educational and career field trips to construction sites as appropriate;
  • Ensuring the integrity of data entered in the program database and client case files;
  • Analyzing data to inform and make recommendations to leadership on programmatic decisions; and
  • Assisting with additional projects as requested by the Assistant Director and Urban Upbound leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required and  related experience preferred
  • Minimum of two years of experience in workforce development, human services, higher education, or related fields
  • Wide range experience in the Construction sector required
  • Strong ability to cultivate and maintain partnerships
  • Strong project management skills
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Docs, Internet Research, and social media
  • Outcomes-driven, strong analytical skills with experience using data to inform programmatic decisions
  • Highly motivated, with proven capacity to work independently, take initiative, and thrive in high-paced entrepreneurial environment
  • Flexible, with availability to work a weeknight and occasional Saturdays
  • Bi-lingual Spanish preferred
  • Passion for social justice
