The successful candidate should have outstanding leadership and administrative abilities. Key skills include organizing, communication, and fundraising. Job Description

NY Metro is a chapter of PNHP, a non-profit research and education organization of physicians, medical students, and health professionals dedicated to working toward universal health care through single payer national health insurance (Medicare for All). The NY Metro Chapter plays a prominent role in the movement in New York for universal health care.

The Executive Director provides leadership and administrative support in organizing, event management, communications, and fundraising. The Executive Director works closely with the Board of Directors to determine and implement the strategic direction of the organization, strengthen Board development, and support the Board’s Committees and Working Groups. The Executive Director has part-time administrative assistance. Responsibilities include the following:

Organizing

  • Take leadership role in campaigns in which the Chapter is engaged, such as that supporting the single payer NY Health Act.
  • Support the working groups of the board
  • Recruit and mentor student leaders at area medical schools, including help to build strong chapters at these schools
  • Collaborate with the PNHP National Office as well as New York area chapters in the Capital District and elsewhere.
  • Work with the Membership Committee to develop ways of reaching potential members and welcoming new members into the Chapter. 

Education and Outreach 

  • Work with the Program Committee to identify speakers and topics for monthly forums and other events.
  • Arrange speaking engagement for Chapter members.
  • Update and maintain Chapter website.
  • Encourage and support Chapter members in writing letters to the editor and corresponding with journalists.

Administration

  • Manage monthly Board meetings, Executive Committee conference calls, and other events.
  • Supervise administrative assistant, student fellows, and volunteers.
  • Manage Fall and Summer fund drives and identify other funding. opportunities.
  • Organize elections at annual membership meeting.
  • Maintain Chapter files and database (donors, members, non-members).
  • Provide annual budget and cash projections.
  • Report bi-monthly and semi-annual lobbying activity to JCOPE.
