EOP counselors provide advising and counseling support to collegiate students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Counselors are members of a larger team charged with supporting our students toward the pursuit and attainment of their college degrees.
Job Requirements & Essential Functions of the Job:
Under the supervision of an EOP Director, an EOP Counselor is responsible for all assignments and/or projects related to the counseling of Educational Opportunity Program students as assigned by the Director. The EOP Counselor will maintain a counseling relationship with program students by providing individual and group counseling sessions relating to academic, financial, career and personal counseling matters; submit periodic and semester counseling reports as required by the Director; participate in the EOP orientation program; maintain office hours; work with students in the Pre-freshman Summer Program; provide support to the EOP admissions process; maintain logs of daily counseling activities; pay special attention to retention problems; monitor filing of financial aid applications; serve on EOP standing committees and participate in other campus/community activities that involve EOP students.
The EOP Counselor will maintain channels of communication with and make referrals to all on-campus offices and community services which impact on the Educational Opportunity Program and its students, e.g. Financial Aid Office, Registrar’s Office, Student Accounts, Career Development Center and Counseling Services Office.
Required Qualifications:
- Baccalaureate degree in Sociology, Psychology or related human services.
- Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Counseling or a related field.
- Experience working in a secondary or post-secondary setting.
- Spanish language skills.
