Teamsters Local 814 is a nearly 100 year old labor organization that primarily represents workers in the commercial moving & storage and office furniture delivery& installation industries. Local 814 has also established itself, in the last two decades in particular, as a leading progressive, grass-roots union; known for an activist membership, support of broader social justice movements and creative, militant campaigns for worker’s rights.

The Industry Promotion Fund is a joint effort between Local 814 and the union’s signatory moving companies in New York City. The IPF’s goal is to protect and raise standards for workers in those core industries, educate key stake holders (i.e. the public, institutions, government, corporations, etc.) and build coalitions to address key challenges and opportunities in those industries.

The Promotion Fund is seeking an experienced, full-time communications/research/strategic campaign staffer to assist in those on-going efforts.

Qualifications:

Two years experience in communications, research, campaign or related work

Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, Internet research

Excellent writing and verbal communication skillsEnergetic and self-motivated

Able to think strategically on an industry-wide level

Communications, marketing or journalism experience a plus

Familiarity with basic principles of corporate research a plus

Social media and web

-site content management experience a plus

Knowledge of unionized construction or building service industries a plus

Responsibilities:

Education/Outreach

o Develop, with the assistance of Fund Trustees, an industry-wide outreach plan.

o Assist in drafting promotional materials.

o Draft and send out a regular email newsletter.

o Work with Fund Trustees and consultants to develop an earned media strategy.

o Conduct outreach to key stake-holders

o Attend events, build coalitions/key relationships with stake-holders in local government, real estate, construction, office furniture and labor and community organizations.

Data Management/Research

o Overhaul the Fund’s existing database of contacts through outreach and internet research.

o Test the database with regular outreach, then cull and update lists accordingly.

o Track upcoming large construction and moving projects, and prepare reports on density and outreach for each project.

o Analyze challenges and opportunities with respect to upcoming large construction and moving projects

o Working with Fund Trustees, design and implement customized strategies and campaigns to educate stake-holders involved in key projectsWeb Site and Social Media Presence

o Maintain the Fund’s social media accounts by posting regular content.

o Assist in the ongoing website overhaul.

o Update the website with news items from the email newsletter.

o Coordinate search engine optimization for the website.
