United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 2013 is a progressive union of 13,000+ members working in health care, food manufacturing, warehousing, and retail in the New York City Tri-state area. Our Brooklyn-based union represents a majority immigrant workforce that is the backbone of the city. We are committed to improving the lives of working people, and we are looking for staff with that same commitment.
Major responsibilities include:
– Visit assigned shops on a scheduled basis.
– Assist and train Local Shop Stewards in policing and enforcing the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
– Process grievances and hold grievance meetings.
– Move members to take collective action to resolve workplace issues.
– Put together Labor Management and/or Health and Safety Committees.
– Identify and develop Shop Stewards and other leaders.
– Develop and work with bargaining committee members in actively participating in contract negotiations.
– Help develop and move contract support and issue campaigns when needed.
– Turn in weekly progress reports and schedules
Qualifications:
– Commitment to fight for justice and worker rights.
– 1-3 years of representational experience.
– 1-3 years of organizing experience.
– Strong communication skills.
– Bilingual Spanish Speaker is a plus.
– Comfort and effectiveness working in a diverse environment.
– Strong organization and time management skills.
– Knowledge of relevant labor laws.
– must have a Driver’s license
Compensation and Benefits:
– Salary will be based on years of experience. Package includes comprehensive health and retirement benefits and use of a car or car expenses (gas card, ez pass)
