A conversation about workers, communities and social justice

UFCW Local 2013 is a progressive labor union made up of working men and women sticking together to achieve dignity and respect in the workplace. The Local has approximately 13,000 members mainly in the tri-state area. A large number of our members are immigrants.  2013 members work in:

  • Health Facilities and as Home Health aides
  • Warehouses
  • Manufacturing
  • Parking Garages
  • In the food industry

Local 2013 is committed to building an organizing culture at the Union, one with increasing membership participation, activism and power through internal organizing and external organizing.

We are one of the nearly 1,000 local unions in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico that make up the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union.

The UFCW International Union is North America’s Neighborhood Union—1.3 million members standing together to improve the lives and livelihoods of workers, families, and communities.

Overview of the Labor Organizer Training Program:

This is an exciting opportunity for those with a commitment to building power and justice for working men and women.

The Labor Organizer Training Program (LOTP) is a one-year training program which will provide practical hands-on experience working in the labor movement with a diverse group of workers

This program provides a chance for labor organizer trainees (LOT’s) to apply their “book knowledge” with actual field experience in a structured supervised setting.  LOTs will be given the opportunity to gain, or strengthen existing representational or organizing skills, and/or gain a different experience in the labor movement from what the candidates may have had in the past.

GOALS

Labor Organizer trainees will help our Union:

1. Strengthen the existing steward system

2. Activate members in priority shops and increase member engagement in general

3. Establish a digital communication and social media presence.

Labor Organizer Trainees will gain experience in:

2. Supporting and training stewards in grievance investigation

3. Charting shops to identify and track member networks and build       committees

4. Running successful worker meetings and Labor Management Committee meetings

5. Moving members to take collective action on issues
