Youth Program Coordinator at Muslim Community Network (MCN)

Muslim Community Network seeks a dedicated full-time Program Coordinator to support the development and implementation of its programs and its mission to empower NYC’s diverse Muslim community through dialogue, education, collaboration and social action. The Program Coordinator is a go-getter who passionately believes in the power of youth to lead in social justice advocacy and is dedicated to ensuring they develop the skills to create positive change for their communities. He or she will play a role in all of MCN’s programs, but will primarily be responsible for the development and implementation of its youth leadership development, cross-cultural and community education programs: Muslim Youth NYC (MY NYC), Muslims in the Mirror, Community Education Workshops.

The Program Coordinator will have the opportunity to develop first-hand knowledge of project planning and evaluation and will be responsible for the implementation and overall success of the programs. This position is full-time. The Program Coordinator will serve 40 hours per week and must be available some nights and occasional weekends when programs, workshops and events occur. He or she will report to the Executive Director and will be responsible for managing other staff, interns and volunteers assisting with the programs.

The Muslim Community Network develops the capacity of Muslim New Yorkers and their allies to fully participate in the social and political landscape of New York City.

MCN’s strategies include creating strong relationships with other faith-based communities; articulating and advancing an understanding of the need for citizen engagement; developing the skills and ability of our community to affect change, and building the next generation’s identity and capacity as leaders. Our program areas: Youth Leadership Development, Community Education, Civic Engagement, and Cross- Cultural Education.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with MCN staff to coordinate program logistics and content and to ensure effective and timely implementation of program objectives.
  • Design and deliver MCN’s educational workshops and its youth leadership curriculum to its after-school programs and college- age participants and adapt curricula as needed according to the needs of the students.
  • Connect with community leaders, professionals, organizations and other stakeholders to foster and maintain positive relationships and recruit participation as mentors, guest speakers and workshop facilitators; recruit other volunteers to provide support to MCN’s programs.
  • Assist with the development of public relations and communications strategies to support program goals and increase community awareness.
  • Assist in the production of development and fundraising initiatives to secure program funding.

Requirements:

  • Associates degree required, Bachelor of Arts in education/ youth development, social work or related disciplines preferred. Post-graduate (MA) applicants welcome to apply.
  • 2+ years experience in running programs, preferably in delivering workshops in an educational, after school, youth development setting.
  • Impeccable organizational and time management skills, written and oral communication skills, attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Able to work independently and provide program updates and deliverables with limited supervision, as well as be an active contributor to team planning.
  • Ability to travel locally to program sites and availability to work occasional nights and weekends.
  • Conscious of privilege, discrimination, identity, and other issues affecting the American Muslim community and sensitive to cultural and religious diversity. Must be able to “meet people where they are”.
  • Fluent in English and high-level proficiency in a second language: Arabic, French, Urdu, or Bengali

Desired Qualifications:

  • Proficient in MS Office, Facebook, Twitter and other social media; basic familiarity with website and database management.
  • Experience in community organizing and a commitment to social justice and interfaith engagement.
  • Able to work with diverse populations, including 15-18 years and up.
  • Experience writing grant proposals and planning fundraising events.
