About the National Guestworker Alliance (NGA)
The National Guestworker Alliance (NGA) is a national organization dedicated to winning rights and respect for guestworkers and building a social movement response to the transformation of work in the United States. Anchored by the New Orleans Workers’ Center for Racial Justice, a multiracial organization dedicated to building the power and participation of low-income workers and communities, NGA and the Workers’ Center have been nationally recognized for direct worker organizing, strategic campaigns, policy advocacy, litigation, and coalition building to advance immigrant rights, racial justice, and economic equity.
NGA is organizing workers in multiple sectors including industrial construction and food processing and building a national movement around contingent work. You’ll be part of a small but growing, fast-paced organization that will shape the face of labor in the next two decades through strategic campaigning and worker victories.
About the Position
This position is based in New England with an initial focus on New Bedford, MA, Providence, RI and Fall River, MA.
National Guestworker Alliance seeks a highly talented Lead Organizer
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Co-creating a strategic industry wide organizing plan with the support and direction of the Organizing Director. Develop short and medium term work plans with clear goals, strategies and tactics necessary to win campaigns. Evaluate potential organizing targets and integrate research, legal analysis and other information into campaign planning.
2. Lead direct organizing work and industry campaigns. Build, maintain, and develop NGA worker contacts and membership. Support, expand and deepen member leadership and leadership structures through one on ones, membership meetings, leadership meetings and other fieldwork. Support the political development of worker leaders. Manage lists, charts, and databases and assure that fieldwork is clearly and systematically carried out and recorded.
3. Provide support and accountability for a growing team of field organizers who are building a worker association, developing contacts, assessing members, running leadership development, supporting committee development and running member defense strategies. Manage field organizers’ success in meeting goals and deadlines. Provide constructive support and evaluation of field team members and suggest areas of growth. Responsible for high performance and high production values of the organizing team.
4. Support coalition-building efforts with local, state and national civil and labor rights organizations and clergy to support local and national campaign goals.
5. Coordinate and integrate work with legal, research and communication staff and with the broader movement allies.
6. Other duties as assigned.
This is not a 9 to 5 job—long and varied hours, with early morning, evening, weekend work is required.

The NGA / New Orleans Workers Center are strongly committed to racial justice, international solidarity and alliance building, economic justice and gender justice frames. While the lead organizer will focus primarily on the work described above, candidates must be committed to supporting African American organizing for access to dignified jobs; immigrant organizing for civil rights; LGBTQ rights organizing; gender justice organizing; and other efforts across many communities to expand dignity and democracy in the South.
Familiarity and experience in the immigrant rights movement.
Three to five years’ experience in community, labor, or grassroots electoral organizing – including member recruitment, leadership development, and campaigns
Experience training and supervising community or labor organizers;
Must be fluent in English and Spanish
Tagalog language abilities a plus
Must have strong writing skills, office skills, and self-organization skills
Must drive and have valid driver’s license
