Description of Organization:
The Baruch STEP Academy is an academic enrichment program focusing on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education and providing college preparation. Managed through the CUNY Research Foundation, we serve over 150 middle and high school students throughout the city. The Fall 2021 Program will operate over 10 sessions on Saturdays from October 2nd through December 11th.
Living Environment Instructor Position – REMOTE LEARNING
Course Description
This course will prepare students for the June 2022 Living Environment Regents exam.
Summary of Responsibilities
The STEP Academy at Baruch College is seeking to fill a REMOTE Biology instructor position for the high school program. The instructor will be responsible for introducing and reviewing these topics in depth: scientific inquiry, biochemistry, cells and cellular processes, and biological systems. Virtual labs will be assigned.
The goal of the course is to help students:
1. prep for the June 2022 Regents exam
2. assist with understanding homework assignments
Specific Duties
· Plan, teach and prepare materials for about 15-20 students
· Evaluate student and group performance often
· Provide staff with measurable results in student learning through assessments
· Monitor and maintain student attendance records
Qualifications
-Required:
- Availability for each scheduled Saturday in the fall- Instruction: 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm; Virtual Office Help: 1:30 pm – 2:00 pm
- Major in a science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) field or a strong background in the subject area
- Ability to engage students virtually (mastery of Zoom and Google classroom)
- Enthusiasm for the subject and possess good interpersonal skills with teenagers
-Preferred:
- Experience with high school students in a tutoring or teaching capacity
- A strong classroom management style and a demonstrated ability to create an engaging learning environment
Salary
· $40-45 per hour (based on qualifications and experience)
