Description of Organization:
The Baruch STEP Academy is an academic enrichment program focusing on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education and providing college preparation. Managed through the CUNY Research Foundation, we serve over 150 middle and high school students throughout the city. The Fall 2021 Program will operate for 10 sessions on Saturdays from October 2nd through December 11th.
College Math Preparation Instructor Position – REMOTE LEARNING
Course Description
High school students will review precalculus topics.
Summary of Responsibilities:
The STEP Academy at Baruch College is seeking to fill a REMOTE instructor position for the high school program. The instructor will be responsible for introducing and reviewing general math topics in precalculus. The goal of the course is to help students:
1. become college math ready by reviewing introductory topics
2. combat ‘brain drain’ in senior year
Specific Duties
· Plan, teach and prepare materials for about 15-20 students
· Evaluate student and group performance often
· Provide staff with measurable results in student learning through assessments
· Monitor and maintain student attendance records
-Required:
- Availability for each scheduled Saturday in the fall- Instruction: 10:00 am – 11:30 am; Virtual Office Help: 11:30 am – 12:00 pm
- Major in a science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) field or a strong background in the subject area
- Ability to engage students virtually (mastery of Zoom and Google classroom)
- Enthusiasm for the subject and possess good interpersonal skills with teenagers
-Preferred:
- Experience with high school students in a tutoring or teaching capacity
- A strong classroom management style and a demonstrated ability to create an engaging learning environment
Salary
· $40-45 per hour (based on qualifications and experience)
