QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in database, spreadsheet, and word-processing software. Experience in contract negotiations for professional and/or technical workers. Experience in developing or administering education and training programs for professional and technical workers. Ability to relate to professional and technical workers. Ability to relate well with organizers, officers, members and outside organizations. Good writing and communication skills required. Some travel required. Must possess a valid driver’s license and a good driving record, Background in a technical or professional position in a health care facility preferred. Some college and degree preferred.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Hold periodic meetings with title specific committees. Initiate and organize new committees in titles where they do not yet exist.
  • Meet with technical and professional departments in the chapters.
  • Research new trends in the various titles.
  • Responsible for tracking relevant legislation, especially at the state level, that affects health care professions.
  • Participate and initiate work in coalitions with relevant professional associations.
  • Give leadership to wage re-opener struggles and negotiations, both at the chapter level and Union-wide.
  • Position serves as resource for the staff statewide for all concerns relating to professional and technical workers.
  • Person must be able to organize a continuing education program (in conjunction with the training fund) for technical and professional titles.
  • Write articles for newsletters; write text for brochures, leaflets, etc. for organizing.
  • Will assist new organizing drives in technical and professional units, including involving and empowering rank-and-file members in these efforts.
