(S.A.V. E) Stand Against Violence East Harlem is a community based organizations that utilizes community members known as credible messengers to implement a “Stop the Shooting” campaign. S.A.V. E coordinates events and resources to address and reduce the shootings in East Harlem. We provide resources, services and referrals to high risk individuals ages 16-24. Outreach Workers will be trained and are a key ingredient to the success of this initiative.

S. A. V. E Outreach Worker will help stop shootings by doing all that is required individually and as a team to prevent shootings in East Harlem, including: 1. Getting to know all the highest risk persons and the people who know them 2. Working to gain trust of the community and highest risk persons so they know you are there – to help prevent shootings and violence, and help with resources, services and referrals to change the negative mind-set of high risk individuals. 3. Communicate to the public that S.A.V. E is in the community to help stop shootings and provide resources by assisting and promoting community mobilization when shootings or other violent incidents occur. 4. Distribute (Public Education) material about the S.A.V. E program to educate the community about S.A.V. E services, developing strategies to be better informed of possible retaliation of a shooting. 5. Outreach Worker will have a caseload of at least 15 participants.

Other Duties: · Case Management skills (preferred) · Conduct outreach to the community (individually and as a team member) to build strong relationships with youth, residents, businesses, and East Harlem community groups/stakeholders. · Serve as linkages and support for individuals to enhance their assistance and use of opportunities and programs in the community (e.g., job programs, GED, drug treatment, and mentoring) · Advocate for youth through court testimonies, when necessary · Participate, as necessary, in organizing responses to shootings and increasing visibility when shootings/killings take place· . Identify and diffuse “hot spots” for shootings and violence· . Document detailed client case notes

S. A. V. E Outreach Worker must have: · Experience working with At-risk/High risk Youth and Gang Members · No pending criminal cases or prior convictions for sexual assault, child abuse or domestic violence · Excellent communication skills · Experience or training in crisis intervention · Knowledge of East Harlem Neighborhoods · Valid NYS driver license, insurance, and good driving record a plus · A demonstrated ability to develop useful community relationships
