Verso Books Seeks Senior or Associate Editor (Brooklyn, NY)

Verso Books—the largest independent, radical publishing house in the English-speaking world—is looking for a full-time senior or associate editor (depending on experience) to work in our office in Brooklyn. He or she will work with Verso and New Left Review’s editors in New York, London and Paris to bring in book proposals across a wide range of subjects—international politics, history, sociology, literature, art, economics and theory—and see them through to publication. The successful candidate would need to be able to acquire books that will have a real political and intellectual impact, and to help Verso reach a substantial readership in both the US and UK. He or she will also play a central role in our effort to stay ahead of changes in the book industry and other media.

Editorial experience would be helpful, but key is a knowledge of Verso’s list and the content of New Left Review, as well as other magazines such as Jacobin and the London Review of Books, an interest in ideas, and an inquiring mind. They will need to show that they are a skilled editor of manuscripts, able to work to deadline on a range of complex projects as part of a dynamic and tightly knit team, and have good ideas for Verso’s list. Salary will be according to experience, with full benefits. We’re happy to consider candidates who have existing commitments for one or two days a week.

Please email your cover letter and resume to editor@versobooks.com by April 30th, with the subject line ‘Editor application’, and indicating where you saw this advertisement. Applicants must be available for an in-person interview in May.
