EdBuild Seeks Policy & Communications Associate (Jersey City, NJ)

EdBuild is a new non-profit that works to research, develop, and model equitable, student-focused education funding policies. We seek to inform the public discourse regarding education finance and engage directly with lawmakers and advocates to affect state-level policy. The Position

The Policy Communications Associate, under the Policy team, will assist with policy research and analysis and will work to disseminate information gathered at EdBuild through writing blog posts, developing and leveraging relationships with the press, and building EdBuild’s social media presence and following. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with knowledge of education policy, some experience with social media campaigns and/or press relations, and excellent writing ability. This person will report to the Senior Policy Analyst.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Policy team with research, analysis, and presentation of findings regarding a wide array of policy issues related to education finance
  • Design and manage media calendars for blog posts, policy briefs, and op-eds
  • Write blog posts and and other substantive communications
  • Work in concert with EdBuild staff to copy edit content for brand and voice
  • Develop and execute successful social media campaigns
  • Interact with reporters and bloggers to increase organizational reach
  • Manage and work on multiple projects, work within tight deadlines, and prioritize work as necessary

Experience and Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Graduate degree in a field related to public policy or education a plus.
  • Demonstrated interest in policy issues related to education, especially education finance.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, including the ability to translate analyses into written products for both narrow and broad audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Location and Work Environment

The Policy Communications Associate will work at EdBuild’s offices in Jersey City, New Jersey. The EdBuild work environment is collaborative in a small, open-plan office space.
