Director/Coordinator, Make the Road Replication Project (Center for Popular Democracy)

About CPD:  The Center for Popular Democracy (CPD) promotes equity, opportunity, and a dynamic democracy in partnership with innovative base-building organizations, organizing networks and alliances, and progressive unions across the country. CPD works to build the strength and capacity of democratic organizations to envision and advance a pro-worker, pro-immigrant, racial and economic justice agenda.

About the Position:  We seek an energetic and experienced organizer to support and anchor the growth of new organizations in Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and New Jersey.  All of these projects have launched, have high quality staff in place and have growing bases of committed members.  All are sister organizations to the highly successful Make the Road New York (maketheroadny.org).

Primary Responsibilities:  This staff person will report to the Director of Organizing and Capacity Building at the Center for Popular Democracy and will:

  • Support local staff in all aspects of their day to day work, through in-person visits and regular meetings
  • Assist in training and recruitment of new staff
  • Anchor communications work with members, allies, potential supporters, press, and the broader community
  • Develop funding proposals and other funding materials and participate in fundraising to grow these new organizations
  • Manage organizational budgets and finances
  • Manage organizational databases
  • Represent these organizations at external meetings, coalition tables, and conferences
  • Ensure strong communication and relationship building between the new organizations and their sister organizations, Make the Road New York and CPD
  • Provide support to replication efforts in additional places over time

Job Requirements:  We are seeking a seasoned organizer with strong references who is interested in growing into a senior leadership position, with at least 5 years of organizing experience, experience organizing in coalition with grassroots, political and labor allies, strong English language writing skills, and experience in fundraising from individual and institutional sources.  Candidates should have:

  • A demonstrated commitment to social justice and a strong analysis of systemic oppression based on race, class, gender, immigration status, sexual orientation and gender identity
  • Drivers license and vehicle;
  • Excellent organizational skills and good attention to detail;
  • A high level of self-motivation and a proven ability to work independently as well as collaboratively;
  • Ability to work well with diverse groups and populations;
  • Dedication and ability to work flexible hours;
  • Capacity to engage community members one-on-one and run meetings and trainings in Spanish and English
