The Opportunity

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Manager serves as the professional liaison between the New York District Council, ULI headquarters, and New York real estate, planning and development professionals. The Manager’s overall responsibility is to serve as an informed resource for the District Council’s four Local Product Councils and a variety of operational committees, interfacing with them to ensure that all work is consistent with ULI’s policies and procedures and that ULI New York’s mission, goals, and objectives are met. In addition, the Manager is responsible for a combination of external relationship building, including the management of Technical Assistance Panels and public sector engagement.

Specific Responsibilities:

Local Product Councils

 Manage four Local Product Councils (Housing, Infrastructure, Sustainability, and Mixed-Use Development), which are topically focused, multidisciplinary groups of mid- and senior-level professionals involved in a specific facet of real estate who commit to meet on a regular basis, develop trusted connections, and share best practices.

 Work with the volunteer member co-chairs of the four Local Product Councils to develop programming, schedule and execute meetings, and recruit new council members.

 Develop a formalized application process for Local Product Council membership.

 Support grant writing and serve as project manager for Local Product Council-driven research initiatives as necessary.

Technical Assistance Panels

 Manage ULI New York’s Technical Assistance Panel (“TAP”) program, in which ULI member experts provide objective solutions to land use challenges.

 Support the TAP steering committee’s efforts in sourcing opportunities, marketing the program to government agencies throughout the state of New York, and recruiting experts from ULI’s membership to serve on panels.

 Serve as the primary point of contact with a TAP sponsor. Assist with the negotiation of the scope of work, develop a pre-panel timeline, and assemble all briefing materials.

 Coordinate all logistics and support for TAP panelists on the day-of the charrette. Oversee the timeline of report production with contracted report writer.

Public Sector Outreach Initiatives

 Manage the Tri-State Land Use Council, a regional partnership with ULI Northern New Jersey and ULI Westchester/Fairfield that provides elected and public officials with a nonpartisan platform for addressing issues related to land use policy, urban and suburban growth, economic development, housing, transportation, and market trends.

 Collaborate with the Council Steering Committee and Director of ULI Northern New Jersey and ULI Westchester/Fairfield to recruit participants for the Tri-State Land Use Council, coordinate meetings, and develop agendas.

 Serve as coordinator for Development 101, an initiative of ULI New York’s Advisory Board that seeks to educate the public sector on the factors that influence decision making on development deals in the private sector.

Committee Management

 Manage District Council Program Steering Committee. Attend monthly meetings, coordinate with co- chairs to produce agendas and related materials, and assist in the development of content for 8-10 annual programs per year.

 Manage District Council’s Women’s Leadership Initiative. Assist the Steering Committee in the development of programs, networking events, and outreach initiatives. Attend monthly meetings and support co-chairs in the coordination of meeting logistics and recording meeting minutes.

 Assist the Executive Director in supporting the activities and initiatives of the District Council’s Advisory Board.

District Council Operations Support

 Provide support for the district council’s operations including, but not limited to: databases, records, calendars, supplies and equipment, files, and other district council resources and equipment and maintenance as needed.

 Work closely with the Executive Director to evaluate and communicate the impact of district council initiatives.

 Support the district council’s communications strategy in collaboration with the district council’s public relations consultant.

 Support the Executive Director in the preparation of budgets and recertification plans.

 Develop grant applications to support the district council’s initiatives.

 Assist the Executive Director, the Associate, and third-party contractors with programs and event planning and logistics.

Requirements:

 Masters degree with coursework in urban planning, public administration, urban policy, real estate development, economics, or comparable fields preferred.

 5 years of related work experience, preferably working at a non-profit or other organization in a member service capacity. Working knowledge of urban planning, land use, or real estate development in New York required.

 Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills to work with senior business and public sector executives. Ability to provide courteous customer service and professional relationships with co- workers in a fast-paced environment.

 Demonstrated ability in writing and editing for a variety of platforms such as research reports, newsletters, and online publications.

 Proven project management skills, including the ability to creatively solve problems.

 Self-motivated, highly organized, demonstrating meticulous attention to both details and deadlines.

 Demonstrated proficiency/skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point) and Adobe products required.

 Ability to prioritize tasks, to handle multiple tasks concurrently and completely, and complete tasks on time, with responsible follow through.

 Ability to attend early morning and evening events required.

NYHC Seeks Program Associate (NYC)

NYHC, a statewide nonprofit affordable housing policy and advocacy organization, seeks a Program Associate who has demonstrated interested and preferably has experience in about affordable housing, community development, housing finance, public policy, social justice, urban planning or similar issues.  Must be self-motivated change agent with excellent communication skills.  Primary Responsibilities of the Program Associate are to perform administrative functions to ensure smooth office operations, manage communication platforms and bookkeeping.  The Program Associate also conducts research, provides analysis, communication and support on affordable housing policy.  Specific duties include the following:

32BJ SEIU Seeks Civic Engagement Campaign Coordinator (NYC)

SEIU 32BJ represents 155,000 property service workers in eleven East Coast states and the District of Columbia. 32BJ has an aggressive organizing program aimed at raising standards for security officers, airport workers, cleaners, residential maintenance workers and institutional food service workers. 32BJ also has active political, legislative and electoral campaigns to support organizing, raising standards for low wage workers, winning commonsense immigration reform, fighting for racial justice, environmental justice and other social and economic justice policy initiatives.

The person will, as part of their initial assignment, support and drive SEIU’s response to the Puerto Rican fiscal crisis and coordinate 32BJ’s civic engagement work on the Puerto Rican crisis and commonsense immigration reform in key geographies. The individual will work in collaboration with the political staff and elected leadership of the union as well as with key partner organizations to activate and engage key constituencies. Reporting to the Deputy Political Director for Member & Civic Engagement, this position will work with the staff of 32BJ across departments to facilitate the development and execution of campaign based work with local, regional and national partner organizations to mobilize communities and win changes impacting the lives of our members and low and moderate income people. They will also staff SEIU’s new Puerto Rico Task Force, which will coordinate activities among SEIU locals to drive a unified program in support of economic justice in Puerto Rico.

This position is committed for one year, with a hope of ongoing funding moving forward.

The position is based at the New York City headquarters, and will involve frequent travel throughout the Local’s jurisdiction as well as occasional extended assignment throughout 32BJ’s geography.

Key duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Planning and executing coalition strategies, events and actions around the Puerto Rican debt crisis;
  • Staffing SEIU’s Puerto Rico Task Force to coordinate activities among multiple SEIU locals in support of economic justice in Puerto Rico;
  • Collaborating with national SEIU and other partners to deepen civic engagement and increase voter registration and participation in Latino and other communities;
  • Developing training materials to educate and involve 32BJ members and the broader community in social justice issues and civic engagement;
  • Representing 32BJ as needed with internal and coalition partners.

Qualifications:

  • Five years’ experience in community and/or labor organizing and/or campaign work;
  • Demonstrated leadership skills;
  • Effective judgment in handling relationships with other organizations and their leadership;
  • Excellent communication skills, including proficiency with social media;
  • Ability to organize and analyze data and communicate and apply that analysis in contributing to campaign plans;
  • Ability to develop and hold organizational relationships with 32BJ members, non-members, and stakeholders across the union;
  • Ability to travel frequently;
  • Spanish fluency preferred;
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and, on occasion, holidays;
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office, Outlook, and simple databases.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for Friendly Visiting Volunteer Program including recruiting, screening, interviewing, placement, and monitoring volunteers.
  • Effectively set-up tracking systems to manage volunteer contact information, recruitment sources, areas of interest, skills, and other information to place volunteers accordingly.
  • Coordinate home visitation and assessment of participants in QCH’s Senior Case Management Program to best match volunteers with program participants.
  • Effectively follow through with thorough cultivation, timely acknowledgement, and consistent stewardship of volunteers and prospects.
  • Identify community outreach and volunteer attraction opportunities such as fairs, local markets, organizations, and businesses.
  • Provide ongoing support, guidance, and appreciation for volunteers; confer with volunteers to resolve grievances and promote cooperation and interest.
  • Act as liaison between volunteers and staff members as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate records and provide statistical and activity reports on volunteer participation.
  • Supervise Friendly Visitor Program Aide to include coaching and training as appropriate.
  • Participate in meetings, training and staff development activities.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Services, Communications, Management, Non-profit Leadership, Public Administration or related field; Master’s is a plus.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ of experience working in similar setting providing direct service in mobilizing, directing, and motivating volunteers; experience working with older adult populations desirable.
  • Community minded with strong relationship or “people” skills.
  • Demonstrated experience of activity planning, program facilitation or event coordination.
  • Excellent project management, prioritization, multi-tasking, and communication skills.

The NWBCCC is a 40-year old intergenerational social justice community organization that unites individuals and institutions to fight for racial justice and community ownership of our institutions, resources, and economy. We seek to hire a dynamic community organizer to develop community leaders to build local models of community-control of our energy system and to work in coalition to advance energy democracy and climate justice policies on the local, state and national level. The Energy Democracy Organizer will continue to develop our Building Power Program to support leaders of faith-based institutions to implement energy efficiency and clean energy improvements on their buildings while developing capacity for local hire/contracting and community control of clean energy assets (like shared solar). The Energy Democracy Organizer will work with members to identify base building, direct action and leadership development opportunities to challenge corporate control of our energy system and advance a just and participatory transition to a resilient, localized and democratically-controlled clean energy economy. We believe that our organizing work should be led by our members, and that developing leadership is a key responsibility of our organizers. The organizer’s main responsibilities will be to:

  • Support the development of the NWBCCC Energy Democracy Committee
  • Base-building through membership recruitment of community and faith-based institutions
  • Leadership development to build capacity of community leaders and members
  • Develop local campaign to challenge corporate control of energy system and ensure affordability and accountability to low-income people of color
  • Build capacity to train, employ, and contract with Bronx-based residents and firms for green jobs

  • Assist in writing reports to current environmental justice funders and assist with grant development
