The State of Workers’ Rights in New York City: Advances and Setbacks in Turbulent Times

The Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA) Office of Labor Policy & Standards, in partnership with the City Commission on Human Rights and the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs, will hold a public hearing about the state of workers’ rights in NYC. Join us to hear how workers are defending and advancing their workplace rights. The hearing will include panels of workers who will testify about issues they face at work, followed by open testimony from low-wage and immigrant workers, worker advocate groups, labor unions, nonprofits, and community-based organizations. Topics include:
·         Gaps in existing protections for workers

·         Issues related to worksite immigration enforcement

·         Wage theft

·         Scheduling problems

·         Access to paid safe and sick leave

·         Freelancer payment issues

·         Workers’ right to organize

·         Discrimination

·         Health and Safety Issues
