On Labor & Public Projects

City & State will convene leaders in government, public policy, and the industry to discuss labor relations and its effect on public projects in New York. This comprehensive conference will examine policy and political developments as they affect working people, the domestic and global economy and labor markets, and the full range of issues that bear on the social and cultural life of workers and working-class communities. Join over 250 industry professionals, policymakers from state, regional, and local government; union leaders, representatives of environmental and consumer groups, and sponsors of proposed public projects. If you are involved in NY’s labor relations and/or infrastructure discussion this is a must-attend event.

8:45 am                Keynote Address by Robert Asaro-Angelo, Eastern Regional Representative, United States Department of Labor

9:15 am                Panel: Changing Rules of Labor

Federal, state, and city labor rules have undertaken a lot of changes in recent years, from new regulations on the use of interns, to how employers classify employees, to increasing minimum wages, to the implementation of paid sick leave or family leave. All of this collectively has altered the way we think about workers and also forced businesses to make many structural changes. With so much of New York’s growth and development based on workers from labor unions, we look at best practices to tackle this new world, and what changes may be coming in the future.

10:15 am              Panel: How Business and Labor Can Work Together

This discussion will address the process of coalition building and idea exchange regarding the current state of infrastructure in New York State. The panel will look for shared views among policy makers, union leaders, representatives of environmental and consumer groups, and sponsors of proposed public projects to evaluate these projects and how to improve our state’s infrastructure in order to create good jobs, improve the safety and sustainability of our communities and grow New York’s economy.

City & State convenes top experts and officials for a discussion on public-private partnerships and their impact on the state.
