Roosevelt’s Network

Roosevelt is home to the nation’s largest network of emerging doers and thinkers—young people who are committed to reimagining and rewriting the rules in their communities.

Our members are organized on 130 campuses in 40 states nationwide, from Ivy League universities to community colleges, partnering with policy makers and communicators to provide them with clear, principled ideas and visionary, actionable plans. Our members are actively influencing policy on the local, state and national level – from introducing legislation on protections for LGBTQ youth to consulting with local governments on natural disaster flood prevention.

Overview of the Position

This is an exciting opportunity for a creative, outgoing, recent graduate who is interested in building up and expanding a membership community. Since our founding in 2004, we have graduated thousands of alumni from our network, a community that we have been strategically investing in and re-engaging for the past two years. Our alumni community has become an integral part of the network and this position will get a chance to shape our strategies for supporting them.

As our Program Associate you will assist the National Director in growing our alumni engagement work—recruiting members to our newest membership program, RooseveltNext, and growing our lists of engaged alumni through events, relationship-building, grassroots fundraising and digital outreach. The Program Associate will also serve as the lead strategist for facilitating policy work within our alumni community, by providing opportunities for direct policy work and career development.

Additionally, this person will help us build ties between our student members and our alumni members. This will involve piloting and growing mentorship relationships and recruiting alumni to serve as thought leaders in the design and editing of policy publications and campaigns.

This is a full time, paid position; a great opportunity to connect to a national policy organization and young leaders in social change fields, and gain experience in public policy, organizing and non-profit program management.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Lead on strategy and execution of Roosevelt’s first paid membership community, RooseveltNext, started in August 2016;
• Build strategic relationships with members of our alumni community;
• Grow our alumni community through face-to-face organizing and list-building (Nationbuilder);
• Help create pathways for career development for our alumni through relationship building with graduate admissions offices and partner organizations;
• Facilitate connections between our student members and alumni members through select mentorship opportunities;
• Play a role in national-level work such as planning and executing our annual alumni convening in Hyde Park, NY;
• Liaison with the network’s Alumni Committee, a select group of our alumni who advise on alumni engagement strategy, fundraising and programmatic decisions;
• Assist the National Director in the execution of fundraising and revenue strategies for the program.

Qualifications and Skills

• Associates or Bachelor’s degree and/or 1-2 years experience in organizing, membership management, grassroots fundraising;
• Past experience with the Roosevelt Institute’s network or the Roosevelt Institute strongly preferred. Roosevelt network alumni especially are encouraged to apply;
• Passion for the mission of the Roosevelt Institute, and a belief in the ability of young people to influence public policy;
• Self-driven working style and ability to juggle multiple projects at a time;
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills;
• Keen attention to organization, detail and deadlines;
• Experience planning events and campaigns.
