Job Summary:
The Community Outreach Worker will be responsible for conducting outreach for the HomeBase program to increase awareness about the program and its services in CD301, CD304 and CD316.
Duties and Responsibilities :
- Conduct outreach activities to promote awareness of the HomeBase Program in conjunction with the Community Outreach Specialist
- Participate in outreach strategic sessions for the HomeBase Program
- Identify, develop, and implement outreach activities for HomeBase and other programs as needed
- Develop educational materials such as flyers, fact sheets, brochures, posters, etc., on programs/policies that address the needs of those at risk of homelessness
- In collaboration with the Resource Development Specialist, initiate and maintain relationships with community organizations, establishing linkage agreements and/or referral process to the HomeBase program
- Develop and facilitate presentations regarding topics that impact long-term housing stability, including knowledge/enforcement of tenants’ rights/housing law; managing landlord/tenant relations; applying to/recertification of NYCHA, Section 8, SCRIE/DRIE; employment search/retention; and financial management/budgeting
- Identify, attend and promote HomeBase services at community meetings, such as tenant association and community board meetings
- Maintain a flexible schedule, including occasional weekend, early morning and evening hours
- Collaborate with other empowerment center programs as needed
- Report to Community Outreach Specialist and Director of Strategy and Staff Development
- Other duties as assigned by Community Outreach Specialist and Director of Strategy and Staff Development
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Excellent research, writing, and communication skills
- Ability to facilitate a variety of trainings/workshops/presentations to a range of audiences
- Knowledge of New York public benefits, subsidies, and other assistance programs preferred
- Knowledge of New York landlord-tenant/housing law desired
- Microsoft Office proficiency (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) desired
- Spanish-speaking preferred
