Cooper Square Mutual Housing Association (MHA) seeks an experienced, high-energy Executive Director with excellent skills in housing financial management, community development, communication and staff management to lead this cooperative housing organization, with a Community Land Trust. The Executive Director (ED) should have a strong and proven commitment to the MHA’s mission of promoting, supporting and developing low and moderate income housing and to maintaining 24 buildings in lower Manhattan under its umbrella as permanent affordable housing for low to moderate income shareholders.
The ED will hold the most senior position in the organization with responsibilities of management and leadership. The ED’s responsibilities will consist of the planning, organizing and directing of non-profit housing programs that include residential and commercial property, building maintenance, government relations and community outreach for a progressive, mixedsite cooperative initiative on the Lower East Side. The organization has an operating budget of over $2 million and a staff of about 20 employees comprised of maintenance, office support and management.
Under the direction of the MHA Board, the ED, in addition to managing day-to-day operations, will promote and implement the MHA’s mission and facilitate the organization’s current and future direction. Ideal candidates for this position will provide visionary and strategic leadership, proven networking and coalition building experience, exceptional interpersonal skills, development and understanding of complex relationships, a working knowledge of fundraising, significant professional experience of progressive leadership and management responsibility, preferably in a membership organization.
Qualifications
Bachelor Degree along with comparable experience in non-profit housing and commercial property management or public administration. Non-profit and community service is desired. A Master’s degree is a plus. Salary will be commensurate with experience. Relocation assistance is not available.
