Cooperative Development Institute Seeks Director of Fundraising and Communications (Northampton, MA)

Position Overview: CDI seeks a qualified person to serve as Director of Fundraising and Communications within the organization. This is a new position. As Director of Fundraising, leads the Fundraising Committee to raise funds for the organization in alignment with the Strategic Plan and Development Plan; and provides leadership for the development, implementation, and revision of CDI’s development plan. As Director of Communications, leads the Marketing and Communications Team to develop, implement, and revise the organization’s Communications plan. As Director of Fundraising and Communications, serves on the Management Team that oversees CDI and is responsible for developing, communicating and engendering support of CDI’s vision, mission, values, goals and objectives.

Essential Job Functions:

Fundraising:

  1. Develops, implements and oversees CDI’s fundraising plan within the guidelines of the strategic and operations plans and in partnership with the Executive Director;
  2. Ensures that appropriate steps are taken to garner federal and state grants, private grants, large donors, small donors, restricted and unrestricted sources of revenue;
  3. Oversees administrative system of tracking, thanking, and cultivating donors;
  4. Researches and identifies new potential sources of funding; manages development and implementation of individual donor program;
  5. Helps organize, implement, and follow up from fundraising events.

Marketing and Communications:

  1. Develops, implements and oversees CDI’s marketing plan and communications efforts within the guidelines of the strategic and operations plans;
  2. Develops and oversees implementation of plans for external communication: e.g. website, social media, newsletters, annual reports, outcome measurement & client satisfaction reports, press, special publications, videos, collateral;
  3. Develops and oversees systems to aid team members in facilitating the flow of information internally, e.g. through forms, templates, resource compilation;
  4. Ensures maintenance of lists and files and tracking of metrics relevant to marketing and communications.

Organizational Expectations:

  1. Responsible for conducting all activities within the prescribed policy and budgetary guidelines as set by the Board and administered by the Management Team.
  2. Functions as a creative leader of CDI’s Management Team, sharing information effectively to assist others in doing CDI’s work. Builds positive and strong relationships with other CDI staff.
  3. Demonstrates personal responsibility in job performance.
  4. Responsible for role modeling professional standard of behavior. Takes this role within the organization, is consistently respectful and professional with staff, clients, donors and other stakeholders.
  5. May be required to perform additional, related duties or functions of lesser or greater responsibility as negotiated to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.

Minimum Requirements

  1. 3 years of experience in fundraising in non-profit community or economic development organizations.
  2. Successful track record of securing individual contributions as well as government, foundation and partner funds.
  3. 3 years of experience with communications and marketing in mission-driven organizations.

Knowledge Skills/Abilities

  1. Strong knowledge of and commitment to cooperatives and cooperative development.
  2. Well-developed partnership, process development and integration and planning skills.
  3. Excellent communication skills, including persuasive writing and public speaking.
  4. Strong computer and software skills required: e.g. MS Office, CRM, email marketing.
  5. Proactive and team-oriented leadership required.
  6. Ability to think critically and solve problems.
  7. Demonstrated experience working effectively on a team.
  8. Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  9. Familiarity with public policy process and development.
