The National Council for Occupational Safety and Health(National COSH) is seeking a Worker and Network Organizer to contribute to its mission of ensuring safe, healthy working conditions for all workers. National COSH engages and impacts workers in communities across the country through a network of 25 state and local coalitions and a broader network of health and safety labor, community and health activists and professionals. Together we work to build the power of workers to ensure their right to earn their living free from dangers, harassment and abuse.
ABOUT THE POSITION: The Worker and Network Organizer works both independently and as part of a team to support a network of worker leaders through outreach, organizing, technical assistance, program development, and engagement. They will play a key role in building capacity and promoting engagement of the COSH Network, including affiliate organizations and partners (labor unions, worker centers, and community-based organizations). As a member of the Program team, the Worker and Network Organizer will help build worker power to assert their right to safe and healthy workplaces by using effective outreach and leadership development programs and build relationships with Black and Latinx workers that inspire them to act and win. Candidates must have direct experience working in Black and Latinx working-class communities and a deep appreciation of Black and Latinx culture, history, and direct action.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
●Recruit, engage and build capacity of current and prospective COSH Network members to assist them to take action to win workplace health and safety campaigns.
●Prepare for, organize and conduct hands-on, participatory health and safety training educational sessions that introduce workers to resources and rights they can use to identify, prevent and address health and safety concerns.
●As a key member of the program team, co-create and implement strategies that strengthen worker organizing and advocacy campaigns with a key focus on engaging worker leaders.
●Facilitating meetings and communications between COSH partners and allies.
●Oversee development of worker leadership programs.
●Convene worker training sessions (in-person and online).
●Maintain a current database to reflect ongoing member and worker leader activity
●Provide follow-up support and assistance to workers leaders, network affiliates, and supporting program activities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Qualified applicants must demonstrate a commitment to social and economic justice, and building collective power for workers. Preferred qualities and experience:
●Working knowledge of organizing and adult education principles with a commitment to worker rights and advancing workplace safety and health.
●Demonstrated ability to plan projects, develop workplans and timelines, and ensure completion of work plans.
●Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, orally and in writing, with workers, COSH groups, worker centers, unions, community-based organizations, and the general public.
●Understanding of social and economic justice issues facing underrepresented Black and Latinx workers and low-wage worker communities.
●Experience developing leadership programs, educational materials, and/or training activities.
●Experience using online meeting platforms such as Zoom to facilitate meetings and/or training sessions.
SALARY and BENEFITS: Competitive salary ($57,000 –$62,000 based on experience) and benefits package including medical/dental insurance,5% retirement, paid vacation, and holidays. This is a full-time position and reports to the Co-executive Director. Location is flexible.
