BROOKLYN MOVEMENT CENTER SEEKS A COMMUNITY CANVASSER

We are the Brooklyn Movement Center, a Black-led, membership-based organization of Central Brooklyn residents. We pursue self-determination in Bedford-Stuyvesant & Crown Heights by nurturing local leadership, waging campaigns, and winning concrete improvements in people’s lives.

We’re looking for dynamic frontline community organizers who can engage a diverse range of residents and introduce them to BMC and our campaigns. A competitive candidate is someone who is a fearless recruiter, has strong people and communication skills, and holds deep ties to and history with the Central Brooklyn community. We are ultimately looking to invest in local stakeholders and leaders who are willing to evolve into long-term, trusted members of the BMC team.

You’ll be responsible for:

Becoming very well versed in BMC’s history, mission, goals and specific campaign pitches.

Communicating these BMC narratives with individuals in various face-to-face and virtual settings, including door-to-door, group meetings, pedestrian thoroughfares and on the phone.

Recruiting members for the Brooklyn Movement Center and the Central Brooklyn Food Coop.

Recruiting and inviting residents to participate in specific campaigns, programs and initiatives.

Work closely with BMC staff, members and volunteers.

Experience and skills needed for the job:

Atleast one year experience in community and/or customer engagement; strong people skills and ability to communicate verbally in an effective manner; deep familiarity with networks and organizations in Black Brooklyn.

Wages and Benefits: Canvassers will work as part-time employees, with part-time benefits, at a rate of$25 per hour.
