Job Summary:
The Environmental Justice Program Manager is a four day a week (min.), grant-funded position. S/he will work closely with the Executive Director and board members to organize and execute grassroots environmental justice initiatives designed to address legacy toxins, open space, and ongoing sources of pollution in Greenpoint and Williamsburg. The Environmental Justice Program Manager is responsible for engaging residents and stakeholders in town hall meetings, workshops, and informational sessions, and other activities with the goal of developing community-based solutions to environmental problems. This position is funded through June 30, 2019 with the potential to become full-time and be extended, pending funding.
Responsibilities
- Spearhead grassroots efforts that engage residents around lead in soil, open space, and other environmental justice issues of concern
- Plan, coordinate, facilitate, and execute workshops and events, including identifying locations and developing materials
- Create content for program materials, social media, and website. Work collaboratively to manage calendar of social media and website updates
- Develop and conduct surveys and petition drives
- Actively solicit and record feedback from workshops and community meeting attendees
- Represent organization at community meetings, partner events, and meetings
- Support grant reporting efforts
- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Two to four years’ experience in nonprofit setting, environmental advocacy, community organizing, or equivalent experience
- Commitment to environmental and climate justice
- Sense of humor and creative thinker with a can-do attitude
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and/or weekends
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Capacity to balance multiple projects
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Advanced computer skills including proficiency in MS Office and other standard office tools, social media apps, and CMS programs
- Comfortable operating cargo bicycle
- Knowledge of issues facing Greenpoint and Williamsburg preferred
