The New York Committee for Occupational Safety and Health is seeking a program coordinator for the Manhattan Justice for Workers Initiative. The job includes outreach to low wage workers, supporting workers in reporting violations of their rights, whether civil or criminal, and coordinating a collaborative of worker organizations participating in the project. Candidate must be able to work independently, think critically, and operate within a dynamic and complex organizing environment.
The New York Committee for Occupational Safety and Health is a coalition of over 200 local unions and 350 individual safety and health activists in the New York metropolitan area. NYCOSH uses training, education, advocacy, and organizing to improve health and safety conditions in our workplaces and our communities. The job will based in Manhattan, New York.
Required Qualifications
- Experience working directly with low-wage workers and community organizations
- Knowledge of basic workers’ rights and strategies for enforcement
- Organizing experience
- Familiarity with working with coalitions
- Organizational and program development skills
- Public speaking experience
- Excellent writing and communication ability
- Fluency in Spanish
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in supporting low wage workers in enforcing their rights, including wage and hour, health and safety, discrimination, and verbal and physical abuse/harassment
- Demonstrated self-starter
- Experience organizing in New York City
Responsibilities
- Coordinate designated NYCOSH program
- Build NYCOSH’s base and develop NYCOSH members in given program
- Carry out the mission of NYCOSH to educate union members, community organizations, immigrant and other low-wage workers
- Strengthen relationships among NYCOSH and program partners
- Write appropriate reports for programmatic work
- Participate in NYCOSH meetings and activities
Salary: $78,873 – $83,220
