NYCHA Seeks Fall Graduate Intern (NYC)

The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) is the nation’s largest public housing authority, with an operating budget of $3.3 billion and over 11,000 employees who manage and maintain 328 developments that house over 400,000 residents. NYCHA also operates the country’s largest Section 8 program, which provides rental assistance to over 200,000 additional families.

Position Summary
The Graduate Intern reports to the VP of Strategic Initiatives, who reports directly to the Chair & Chief Executive Officer. NYCHA is seeking a graduate student to perform qualitative and quantitative analysis as part of business process improvement projects. The candidate will evaluate organizational structures—both inter-and intra-departmentally—develop work process flows, perform extensive investigative research, and analyze productivity data and performance reports. The candidate will also help develop recommendations for the Executive team on how to improve business practices and better serve NYCHA residents.

Qualifications
Candidates must have graduated from an accredited college or university with an undergraduate degree and be working toward the completion of a relevant graduate degree in fields such as public administration, public policy, urban planning, or business administration. The candidate will be a strong analytic and practical thinker. S/he will possess at least 2 years of work experience related to housing, business, human resources, law and/or public policy.

Schedule & Compensation
This internship requires a commitment of 20 hours per week, beginning in October of 2017. The internship will go through the Fall, with a possible extension into the Winter/Spring semester. The ideal weekly schedule is half days, Monday through Friday, but we will consider those with alternative schedules. Compensation range of $15-$20/hour, commensurate with experience.
