CitiBike Seeks Program Manager (NYC)

About Citi Bike

Bicycle sharing is a convenient, flexible, healthy and fun transportation option that enhances urban livability and mobility. Citi Bike, headquartered in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, is the nation’s largest bike share system. Citi Bike operates every aspect of the program, from repairing and rebalancing bikes, to maintaining the stations and docking points, to marketing the program and educating people about bike share. Citi Bike is in the midst of expansion and plans to grow from 6,000 to 12,000 bikes between now and the end of 2017.

Citi Bike is seeking a Program Manager to expand our community engagement efforts in East Harlem and Two Bridges. Working together with the Education and Outreach Manager, the program manager will be developing strategies, fostering relationships, and spearheading outreach in Two Bridges and East Harlem. This role requires a high level of judgement, political sensibility, decision making and time management.

Responsibilities include:

  • Foster existing relationships with local organizations and develop new ones in East Harlem and Two Bridges
  • Promote Citi Bike’s discount program
    • Develop relationships with NYCHA resident leaders and affiliates in East Harlem and Two Bridges
    • Ensure marketing materials connect with neighborhood needs (includes printed and digital content)
  • Organize Weekly Community Bike Rides
    • Recruit neighborhood residents and organizations to lead weekly bike rides
    • Promote bike rides to the neighborhood residents
  • Help craft a citywide program for Citi Bike equity
    • Working with Motivate and Citi Bike staff develop a strategy for a citywide bike share equity program
    • Work with neighborhood residents to help develop messaging and guideline for imagery  
    • Develop and curate content for the Citi Bike blog and other social media
  • East Harlem and Two Bridges Street Team
    • Manage Street Team outreach efforts
  • Track membership, ridership, and signups in East Harlem and Two Bridges

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree in Communications, Marketing, Urban Planning, Political Science, Environmental Studies or Environmental Science or related fields
  • Minimum two years of experience in community relations, public relations, non-profit program administration, political organizing, community organizing or related field
  • Excellent writing and verbal communications skills, including the ability to synthesize and improve existing written material, and the ability to write / create presentations for different audiences and delivery channels (public meetings, email, websites, social media, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience in community outreach, organizing or volunteer management
  • Calmly adapts to changes in the work environment and ability to manage competing demands
  • This position may require frequent or prolonged standing or bicycling
  • This position may require work on weekends and evenings

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of NYC neighborhoods and politics
  • Experience working with public housing residents
  • Passion for sustainable transportation and cities
  • Fluency in Spanish and/or Mandarin
  • Experience managing
  • Highly responsible, well-organized individual with superb attention to detail
  • High level of interpersonal maturity, poise, and judgment
