Catholic Migration Services (“CMS”), a nonprofit provider of legal services for low and moderate income residents of Queens and Brooklyn, is seeking a full-time organizer to help tenants combat harassment, fight eviction, and preserve affordable housing, with a particular focus on tenants residing in Queens buildings owned by “predatory equity” landlords, as identified by Stabilizing NYC, a City-wide coalition of grassroots organizations and housing advocacy groups. The work includes, but is not limited to, organizing and attending tenant meetings, conducting tenant leadership development trainings, organizing press events, attending meetings of Stabilizing NYC, and providing support to attorneys representing tenants.
Qualifications:
- Experience with tenant, community, or labor organizing; leadership development; and coalition work;
- Strong commitment to social and economic justice, and community empowerment;
- Excellent oral communication and public speaking skills;
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and some weekend hours,to accommodate tenant availability; and
- Proficiency in Spanish or Bangla
