The Opportunity

The Associate works with the Executive Director and Manager to run the programs and operations of ULI New York. A primary area of focus is to routinely develop social media and marketing strategies to increase member and public awareness of the district council’s overall program of work and to drive registration and attendance at programs and events. The Associate maintains the district council’s operational committees, interfacing with them to ensure that all work is consistent with the Institute’s policies and procedures and that ULI New York’s mission, goals, and objectives are met. The Associate is responsible for communications, administration, and program support for the New York District Council.

Specific Responsibilities:

Communications:

  • Manage and update ULI New York’s website, using ULI’s content management systems, including, but not limited to, marketing for upcoming programs and events, news related to district council initiatives, members in the news, and other pertinent activities.
  • Develop content and designs for all e-blasts, including the Chairman’s Monthly e-News Message, program marketing announcements, invitations, etc., in coordination with relevant third-party contractors (e.g., graphic designers) employed by the district council.
  • Manage all ULI New York social media accounts (Twitter, Instagram, Flickr, LinkedIn, and Facebook).
  • Develop and execute coordinated strategies, including aligning social media posts with district council activities, to leverage our social media presence to increase member and public awareness of our overall program of work and to drive registration and attendance at programs and events. 

Administration:

  • Manage and maintain district council operations including, but not limited to, supplies and equipment, files, correspondence, databases, records, calendars, inventories, and other district council resources, equipment, and maintenance as needed.
  • Assist with membership-related needs including membership welcome, orientation, retention, and recruitment strategies.
  • Serve as initial point of contact for the New York District Council, including answering phones and responding to routine member and prospect inquiries.
  • Support the Manager in developing grant applications to support the district council’s initiatives.
  • Assist the Executive Director, Manager, and third-party contractors with programs and event planning and logistics.

Programs:

  • Manage all aspects of the Young Leaders Group, consisting of 800-plus ULI members under the age of 35 who are committed to responsibly shaping the built environment and the future of the real estate industry in the New York region.
  • Serve as the District Council Coordinator for ULI’s UrbanPlan program, a realistic, engaging, and academically demanding classroom-based curriculum in which high school students learn about the roles, issues, trade-offs, and economics involved in urban development. 
  • Coordinate with UrbanPlan teachers to establish fall and spring class schedules at participating New York City high schools.
  • Coordinate with the Mentor Program Cochairs to manage all activities related to the district council’s Mentor Program, which is designed to build professional and social relationships between experienced executives in the real estate industry and young real estate professionals.
  • Support the launch of ULI Next New York, an initiative designed to champion the ULI mission through a compelling avenue of engagement for members between the ages of 35 and 45.
  • Support the Manager on Technical Assistance Panel (TAP) steering committee coordination and TAP outreach, coordination, and final report drafting, editing, and layout.
  • Work with programs to develop program themes, topics, and promotional materials.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, public administration, business/real estate, or related field. Advanced degree is a plus. 3-5 years of related work experience preferred.
  • Proven project and operation management skills, including the ability to creatively solve problems.
  • Demonstrated proficiency/skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook), Adobe, and PowerPoint.  Knowledge of and competency with graphics, illustrator, or communications software a plus. Familiarity and proficiency with web-based tools, such as content management systems or internet-based tools for updating and publishing content to dynamic website. Strong aptitude for social media marketing and networking.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills to work with senior business and public sector executives.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and handle multiple tasks concurrently and completely with responsible follow-through.
  • Ability to provide courteous customer service and maintain professional relationships with coworkers in a fast-paced environment. Self-motivated, highly organized, and demonstrating meticulous attention to both details and deadlines.
  • Ability to travel to ULI New York events throughout the region and occasionally to ULI meetings in other locations.
