Katal Center for Health, Equity, and Justice Seeks Justice Campaign Organizer (NYC)

The Katal Center for Health, Equity, and Justice is a new organization with big ideas and bold, visionary goals. We’re focused on:

  • Ending mass criminalization, mass incarceration, and the war on drugs.
  • Promoting justice, equity, and community safety.
  • Advancing health-based approaches to drug policy.
  • Building leadership and organizing capacity of organizers, advocates, and community organizations.

We’re hiring.

We’re seeking an extraordinary, driven, entrepreneurial person to join Katal as our Justice Campaign Organizer. The Justice Campaign Organizer will work to transform New York City’s criminal justice system through the#CLOSErikers campaign – a coalition effort led by our partners at JustLeadershipUSA.

Responsibilities of the Justice Campaign Organizer include:

  • Organizing: Identifying and developing leaders, conducting outreach, coordinating actions, and more.
  • Advocacy: Coordinating Katal’s participation in public forums, coalition meetings, and conferences
  • Communications: Conducting research, writing fact sheets, preparing press materials.
  • Administration: Tasks as needed.

You might be the right person for this job if:

You have at least three years experience as a community organizer or policy advocate, and you’re not afraid of new challenges with steep learning curves. You think well on your feet, don’t get flustered easily, and when things change, you know how to roll with the punches.

You communicate clearly. You’re a good listener. You know how to facilitate a productive meeting. You write well. You are comfortable communicating with people on the phone, in writing, or in person.

You are motivated and driven. You are committed to racial justice. You seek to grow, and you believe that anything you do is worth doing well.

What you need to know to apply:

This is full time, salaried position. You must live in the New York City Metropolitan area. Travel is part of the job. There will be work on some nights and weekends. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package.

The Justice Campaign Organizer reports to the Director of Strategy & Campaigns.
