SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Communications Coordinator position is an opportunity to tell the story of an emergent economy that works for people and planet, as well as to play an integral role in promoting and publicizing one of the New Economy Coalition’s flagship events, CommonBound 2016.
They are responsible for utilizing NEC’s online platforms to amplify the work of our members, as well as to expand our reach and keep NEC’s audience up to date on a range of news related to new economy themes and progressive politics.
The job is part time. NEC has offices in Boston and New York City. Remote applicants are welcome.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain profiles and curate content for NEC’s online platforms, which include:
- www.neweconomy.net
- Email lists
- NEC network platforms
Solicit and edit original and reposted content for the NEC blog at neweconomy.net, building out the platform into a go-to source for new economy ideas and movement news
Assist the rest of the programs and communications team in developing and implementing the communications strategy for CommonBound 2016 (July 8-10 in Buffalo, NY), including:
- Promotion and outreach across platforms
- Generating digital and printed promotional materials
- Coordinating with videographers, livestreamers and other media contractors
- Processing panels and plenaries into digital content
Develop NEC’s communications working group by utilizing online platforms for training, support, and peer-to-peer communication, including creating a wiki for shared resources and helping to convene regular working group calls.
Assist with organizational logistics, data management, planning and coordination as necessary
All other reasonable tasks as requested by the Communications Director, the Programs Team, and the Staff Leadership Team.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Experience managing progressive non-profit social media platforms
- Background working on conferences with 300+ participants, including volunteer management
- In-depth understanding of mainstream and progressive news landscape
- Comfort working remotely, especially if not based in Boston or New York
- Excellent time management skills
- Strong writing and editing experience
- Ability to speak multiple languages a plus
- Proficiency using Google Drive
- Proficiency with multimedia editing, Adobe Suite
START DATE: 5/1/2016
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: We will consider a candidate’s full range of educational, professional, and life-experience. We do not require that candidates possess any specific degrees or levels of formal educational attainment.
EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Part-time (24 hrs/wk)
SALARY (annual, U.S. $)
$19,900 (equivalent to $16/HR), negotiable commensurate with experience.
