1199SEIU Training and Employment Funds’ Department of Population Health Seeks Trainer Facilitators for Healthcare Workforce Development

The Training and Employment Funds (TEF) is a joint effort of 1199SEIU and contributing employers. Our mission is to develop high quality training, placement and labor-management initiatives. Through our efforts we aim to support the potential of healthcare workers to grow educationally and contribute to building an efficient and caring healthcare industry. We also aim to develop the ability of union and management to problem-solve difficult issues and create innovative solutions. Through our work we intend to create a world-class healthcare workforce and service delivery system.

Our objectives are to:

  • Support healthcare workers’ career goals and employment security by providing worker-friendly, high-quality training programs as well as effective and supportive career counseling;
  • Identify the healthcare industry’s workforce needs and develop and implement education and training programs to meet those needs;
  • Prevent and/or minimize lay-offs;
  • Foster a balanced and equal relationship between labor and management in order to improve workers’ job satisfaction, industry efficiency, and patient care;
  • Provide financial support, training and placement rights to laid-off workers;
  • Provide effective recruitment and job placement services.
    In order to accomplish these objectives, TEF strives to attract and retain quality employees by maintaining an organizational culture that supports job satisfaction and career development.

Commitment:

Full-time with 95% of travel throughout the five Boroughs

Position Summary:

The department of Population Health seeks a dynamic and motivated individual with exceptional training and facilitation skills enhanced with a strong coaching background. You will join a team of professional workforce development consultants. You must be responsible and personable. This individual will support the team by providing training to diverse audiences comprised of health care workers of various backgrounds. You must be able to travel throughout the five boroughs at least 95% of time. A strong knowledge of and experience in healthcare is desired but
not required. An excellent ability to work cross-culturally with diverse populations is required. The ideal candidate will possess cultural sensitivity and awareness critical to the populations we
serve. Ability to write and edit curricula as needed is preferred; however, training materials are provided. You must possess an engaging and interactive presentation style to ensure the learning
environment is conducive to all participant levels. The successful candidate will conduct small and large group trainings and coaching of health care professionals. The candidate must be dedicated, motivated and conscientious. The candidate will demonstrate ability to collaborate with community-based agencies, and healthcare settings. Experience in and comfort with ambulatory sites, hospital and health care environments preferred. Proficiency with technology (e.g., PowerPoint, Prezi) is required. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to the transformation of health care industry and to the reduction of health care disparities and
inequities.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strong facilitation and training expertise;
  • Exceptional ability to provide and demonstrate coaching skills and abilities;
  • Must be able to travel 95% of time throughout the five boroughs of Manhattan;
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills;
  • Team-oriented. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to collaborate with community-based agencies;
  • Work with hospital staff and health care providers/partner organizations;
  • Work well in diverse communities and environments;
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and awareness;
  • Demonstrable ability to facilitate lively, engaging and motivational trainings;
  • Cultivate and maintain a learning environment for diverse learning styles;
  • Manage and grow relationships with health care industry partners and providers;
  • Experience in the design, integration and implementation of curriculum design desirable;
  • Develop curricula as needed or assigned; materials geared to specific health care worker audiences, including developing striking PowerPoint presentations;
  • Participate in staff meetings as required events, and other team opportunities; and
  • Possess cultural competency and commitment to transforming the healthcare industry.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field; preferably in healthcare, education, workforce development, organizational development, adult learning, training and development; and or teaching experience.
  • Master’s degree preferred;
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in non-profit sector or relevant industry field as described above;
  • Must be able to travel daily throughout the five boroughs;
    Training, Facilitation with Coaching experience
  • Able to deliver, project and motivate employees through effective training;
  • Strong interest in education and employee training within health care;
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a trainer , facilitator and coaching;
  • Monitors the effectiveness of existing training, evaluates projected new curricula;
  • Deliver training curricula and facilitator guides as designed;
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word and Internet);
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Possess culturally sensitive and demonstrable ability to work across diverse cultures;
  • Ability to work with hospital staff and health care workers in healthcare facilities and community-based organizations;
  • Professional and detail-oriented to personal presentation;
  • Possess strong platform and facilitations skills;
  • Ability to write training curricula and or make adjustments to meet client needs;
  • Ability to engage healthcare workers using an engaging and interactive training style;
  • Strong organizational and time management skills;
  • Familiarity with and ability to work in fast-paced ambulatory sites preferred;
  • Team oriented with strong interpersonal skills;
  • High energy, Proactive and positive attitude;
  • Bilingual skills are a plus;
  • Knowledge of healthcare industry; and commitment to healthcare transformation and best practices preferred.
