Empire Justice Center Seeks Policy Coordinator

Policy Coordinator Position:

The Policy Coordinator is a critical member of the Policy Team, which is focused on improving and enforcing the law to reduce poverty and promote social justice. The Policy Coordinator should be passionate about Empire Justice Center’s mission, work well as a member of a team, be enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the policy process. They must have the ability to juggle multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment and have excellent communications skills.

The Policy Coordinator is responsible for working with the Policy Team to support the development of the organization’s annual policy agenda, in consultation with Empire Justice Center attorneys and advocates. The Coordinator is also responsible for working with the Team to implement the agenda through: participation in and coordination of organizational, coalition, and government meetings; the creation of materials, action alerts, social and other communication and media strategies. Materials may include, but are not limited to: researching and writing policy reports, testimony, legislative memoranda, regulatory comments, letters to the editor, op-eds, blog posts and social media posts.

The Policy Coordinator will work as part of the Policy Team to coordinate and track all policy related work of the organization at all levels of government, ensuring consistent positions and branding on issues, internal information sharing, reporting and strategizing, and helping shape and consistently improve internal systems.

The Coordinator will also work to advance the organization’s policy positions in the broader community by educating organizations, policy makers and other stakeholders about Empire Justice Center’s overall mission as an organization. This may include representing Empire Justice Center in coalition meetings, public presentations and media opportunities as the need arises.

The Coordinator will become a participating member of the Marketing and Communications Team and help maintain the organization’s vast online policy presence, including any social media programs, by identifying and creating content, updating posted materials, using analytics across multiple digital platforms to track and grow efficacy.

The Position

This position is based in Albany and reports to the Vice President for Policy and Government Relations, who is also based in our Albany office.

Qualifications

  • Education: at least 3 years of New York State policy experience, BA and/or Masters in relevant field.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office 2010, especially Outlook, and familiarity with Adobe.
  • Familiarity with current and emerging social media and other digital platforms.

Salary is commensurate with experience and based on the organization’s salary scale.
