About Development:

Spearheads NYCEDC and interagency efforts on complex planning and development projects which advance the City’s competitiveness, enhancing the City as a place to live, work and visit through promoting a diverse economic base; fostering vibrant, livable and accessible neighborhoods; executing keystone economic development projects; leveraging diverse waterfront assets for economic, recreational and resiliency uses; and supporting and expanding the City’s freight, maritime, aviation and transit transportation networks.

Specifically, Development works to identify strategic locations for public involvement and/or investment; develop and facilitate appropriate planning and community outreach processes; shape use and development.

Examples of Development’s role in key City initiatives can be seen in neighborhoods throughout the five boroughs, including Coney Island and Seward Park.  In Coney Island, Development played a key role in implementing a 19-block rezoning which includes the revitalization of a 27-acre amusement and entertainment district, and makes strategic investments in infrastructure that unlock potential to build over 4,500 new units of housing as well as retail, services, and jobs.  The NYCEDC Development team also played a pivotal role in advancing development of the former Seward Park Extension Urban Renewal Area sites and surrounding City-owned sites, including spearheading over four years of community engagement and successful collaboration between the local community and the City to plan for a new mixed-use, mixed-income development.
