Mario Cilento Re-elected President of the New York State AFL-CIO

The AFL-CIO recently held elections at its 33rd Constitutional Convention in New York City. There, Mario Cilento was unanimously re-elected for another four-year term as President, via which he represents “2.5 million members from 3,000 affiliated public sector, private sector, and building trades unions throughout the state.” From the AFL-CIO:

Cilento thanked the delegates telling them, “I am honored, humbled and privileged to have the opportunity to continue to serve the Labor Movement in our state and I will work tirelessly over the next four years to improve the lives of working men and women and their families.”

Cilento called Labor’s legislative, political and grassroots victories over the past four years unprecedented. He went on to list several of Labor’s key accomplishments including: the Fight for $15, Paid Family Leave, Safe Patient Handling legislation, Veterans Service Credit, an increase and indexation of Unemployment Insurance benefits, Industrial Development Agency Reform, and saving jobs at Alcoa in Massena and at the Fitzpatrick Nuclear Power Plant in Oswego. NYS AFL-CIO Hiring Temporary Field Representative (NYC)

TEMPORARY FIELD REPRESENTATIVE
REGION 10 MANHATTAN OFFICE
(SERVICES REQUIRED IMMEDIATELY)

It is anticipated that services for this position are expected to last until July 2016.

Position Summary:

The Field Representative monitors and enforces the contract, linking members, division leaders, and stewards, and PEF departments. He/she will resolve members’ problems using the contract, state and federal laws, and union organizing principles, and will prepare and present improper practice cases before PERB. He/she conducts training for stewards and union activists.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have experience in collective bargaining as the lead negotiator or chair of the negotiating team. As well as background in grievance processing, arbitration proceedings, labor relations, knowledge of Civil Service Law, and of State operations. Must have excellent communications skills and be highly organized. College degree in labor relations or related field is preferred.

Minimum Salary:

$56, 633, plus downstate staff adjustment of $3, 774, with a monthly transportation allowance of $559/month and excellent employer paid benefits. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. Services required immediately.

Training on Strategic Campaign Research, Nov. 16-18

Our annual training on Strategic Campaign Research will be held on November 16-18 at the Maritime Institute in Linthicum, Maryland. […] 

The training in November is a shorter and more accessible version of the intensive Cornell class that we cosponsor each summer.  It is designed for those who are new to strategic research – researcher new hires, organizers who do their own research, and other staff with research duties, along with leaders and members who want to learn more about strategic campaigning.  Community allies are welcome to participate.
