The Hunts Point Alliance for Children (HPAC) is a non-profit organization transforming the lives of children and families in the Hunts Point Peninsula neighborhood located in the South Bronx. Founded in 2006 in response to the low educational outcomes of Hunts Point students, HPAC assumed the bold mission of expanding the hopes and potential of neighborhood children and their families. The organization accomplishes this by nurturing children and youth along their path to college or career. Over the past decade, HPAC has grown to become a central community leader and currently serves approximately 300 children annually across programs that target early learning all the way through college.
HPAC is seeking a program manager who is invested in delivering quality youth-oriented programming and committed to serving youth in the South Bronx to manage two exciting programs for our middle schoolers at this important moment in realizing HPAC’s recent strategic plan:
In 2017, the Shakespeare Society, HPAC’s long-term partner for our capstone Hunts Point Children’s Shakespeare Ensemble, was transformed as the Public Shakespeare Initiative (PSI) through affiliation with the Public Theater. The Middle School Program Manager will collaborate with the PSI as the students create a Shakespeare production while increasing student literacy and social-emotional competencies.
The manager will also work closely with the HPAC Storefront Ensemble Director to drive the growth of our 7th and 8th grade program to engage students from all Hunts Point schools in our writing and theater program, which offers a safe space for students to explore the importance of physical, verbal, and written storytelling and their own narratives while improving mechanical writing skills.
For both programs, the Middle School Program Manager is the face of the HPAC to students’ families and develop close community partnerships.
