The Research Foundation at Farmingdale State College (FSC) seeks a full-time coordinator for the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) to work with historically underrepresented students in STEM majors The CSTEP coordinator will work with the Director to ensure that all program contract requirements are satisfied, student enrollment is maintained, and student service provision is effective and in accordance with the grants.  The Coordinator will provide personal development, academic, pre-professional and financial aid counseling to assigned caseload of students.  The Coordinator will also assist students in their preparation for internships, research opportunities, and post-graduation plans.  They will take the lead in coordinating program components related to the CSTEP mentor and tutoring programs, and serve as the primary liaison for the CSTEP Advisory Board.  The CSTEP counselor will coordinate with the provision of group services for the program including workshops, special events, and implementation of the summer orientation program for incoming college freshman, and will maintain the program social media and web presence.  Other responsibilities may be assigned by the program Director or department Executive Director, as appropriate.

More specifically, the counselor will:

  • Oversee tutoring program and academic support initiatives
  • Recruit applicants for the program and determine eligibility for CSTEP program
  • Meet individually and in small groups with students to provide personal/academic/career guidance, and assist with implementation of intervention plans for struggling students
  • Maintain rosters, student participation records etc.
  • Work collaboratively with student services ie: financial aid, registrar and academic departments to aid students who are encountering issues.
  • Assist with planning and chaperone occasional field trips including, but not limited to visits to area STEM industry, grad school visits, etc.
  • Work with Director to develop student research opportunities on and off campus and supervise research placements
  • Develop and implement student development workshops to further student academic, career and personal growth


Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s in higher education administration, counseling or a related field
  • Relevant experience working with historically disadvantaged students within an access program, or another program with a similar mission
  • Minimum of 2 years experience with program coordination and implementation focused on supporting student development and success.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills and excellent verbal/written communication abilities
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and overnight travel for program events
  • Proficiency with social media platforms and Microsoft Office Programs including Excel and PowerPoint

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Creative, organized, and motivated individual interested in student development
  • Adaptable and able to work with various constituents, including college faculty, community stakeholders etc.
